Miss me yet?

Of course you don't, it's not even a day since I left. Thanks everyone for coming to dinner Monday night.

Nothing very interesting to speak of as yet. I'm freakin' EXHAUSTED but I'm trying to avoid sleep for now so as not to be jet-lagged all week.

Going to the pub tonight.

How're things over there?

Your name sounds familiar, and you are....?
Good, but you are missed, silly.

Keep the reports coming.
Hope you had a good flight Jen. Sorry about the problem with the phone. I called the number and let it ring for quite a while.

Go to a restaurant. Order tea. Complain loudly when what they bring you isn't sweet and iced. Hilarity will ensue.

And have fun.
I miss you - where are you staying? what's the update? I expect to hear reports on how you are and what you are doing :-)
Get a job. Call the boss before your first day and ask him if it's ok for a woman to wear pants to work. Let me know what he says.

Ah... and so it begins. Hehe. I'm glad things are up to a good start. *grin*

I can't believe Jen's already throwing around the word pub. Next up: bloody and wanker. She's been assimilated.

I still await the first time I go to England, so I can ask for sweet tea. Doing it in Ohio was funny enough.

"Do you have sweet tea?"
"I'm sorry, the bar doesn't open until 1:00."

Hope you're enjoying jolly ol' Engu-land, Jen! You should start posting flyers of Spider-Man spoilers right now.

Glad to hear you made it there safely.

Have lots of fun!

Go and see The Mousetrap, assuming it still runs.

Well tonight I went to a pub with a bunch of other BUNAC participants. Everyone was really friendly and I even left with one guy's phone number. Day 1 complete.

Actually, it was a Canadian named Jared. I'll have to get out of London to meet actual British people. Seriously, I'd guess that almost half of the city, or at least the areas I frequent, is full of Americans, Canadians, and Australians. Oh well. Fun as all hell.
You've been there like two days and you already have areas you "frequent"? What about the whole job thing?
So you like it over there, Jennifer? How are you getting around?

I'm sure they'd prefer that I wear pants (knickers, actually) to work, so long as I wear them under my trousers.

Holy shit I typed a long long long post on how much I love it over here and CHUD ate it.

Well, I love it here.

My eyes hurt. I'm not sure if this is due to the horrible London air or the amount of alcohol consumed last night. London's great to visit but I could never live here. Feckin' miserable. (no, that's not a typo)

I've made lots of new friends- almost all Canadian. I've managed to piss of one of the receptionists at the hostel- there was a misunderstanding about my reservation and I'm pretty damn sure I'm in the right (my roommates backed me up) and she was very rude so I think I'll be moving on sooner than I had originally planned.

Hmm... You'd think I'd have more to say, but there really isn't that much going on as yet. Well, I've got a mobile phone if anybody wants to reach me- 07940 509 240. If you're crazy enough to call from the states (slightly expensive, just maybe) you dial 44 7940 509 240. But if sending text messages is cheaper (probably is?) feel free to do that!

Great Portland Street, if that gives you any idea. It's pretty central.

Our little girl is all growds up.

She hasn't mentioned if she misses us. I know of a few she may NOT miss, but otherwise...

Disgusting story for you - the summer I spent in London every time I sneezed or blew my nose - it was BLACK. Fun time had by all - keep us posted on what you are doing.

You know I miss you all.

Elizabeth- that's a very large part of the reason I'm in such a rush to get out of London. I'm blowing my nose constantly and I can't walk down the street without people blowing smoke in my face -usually not intentionally- it's so disgusting.

Anyways, tomorrow I set up my bank account (with the £180 I have to my name hahahaha) then begin my frantic job hunt. Wednesday I expect to find myself... not here. Interviewing for jobs, hopefully, as I don't really have enough money to do much sightseeing.

I've not been able to kick the movie habit yet, and it's not as if I've really tried to. Last night I watched Italian for Beginners. Tonight I finally saw Swordfish. Then I felt depressed and hit the bar...

The half-pint of Guinness with black currant juice I actually managed to finish a moment ago is turning my stomach. From now on I stick with rum and coke and other safe drinks.

Wish me luck on the job hunt? The toughest, most frustrating part of my journey is about to begin.

I forgot to mention the greatest thing about being over here, and all the other girls I've met have agreed with me on this... there are so many hot guys around here! mmmmmm. eye candy...

I think I'd be a tired drunk, were I ever to drink enough at once to be drunk...

zzz...

Like Prince Charles?

Good luck with the job hunting and how can you dislike Guinness?
Just wondering what you thought of Italian for Beginners? I saw it a few months back here in Atlanta and thought it was a good flick.

Good luck with your job hunt!
Jennifer,

It sounds like you're having a great time there. Seems like you've acclimated pretty well.

Maybe you could apply with a local clinic or hospital, since you've had that experience here in the states. Just a suggestion, of course...

Take care of yourself,

Alain

mm hmm!

as for the job- i'm going to have to find a live-in job, there's no way around it. i'm broke. thank goodness drinks in the bar in the student center are CHEAP. well, not terribly cheap, £1.60 for rum and coke and i usually have a few of those, but that's still tons better than anywhere else around here.

i will feel SO much better when i get out of this city. i've gotten quite comfortable socially, which is a problem b/c it makes me want to stay here, but if i stay the cough i'm developing from all the second hand smoke (among other pollutants) is going to scare everyone away anyways.

hmm, i feel good

i still don't have anything really interesting to talk about though. no pictures, either.

more than half of the money i brought with me is gone, and i have no frikin idea where it went. beyond accomodation (even the hostel is pretty damn expensive!) and food and my phone (pricey but necessary) i have really not spent much. yikes. opened das bank account this morning so at least i'm not carrying around cash, or even travelers cheques, anymore. phew.

anybody who is still reading at this point deserves an award. i think this is the most boring post i've ever made. have yerselves some captain morgan's and coca-cola for me, since i must remain sober enough to find a job tomorrow.

oh yea, who wants to know what i'd title a book about this trip if there was anything interesting enough to publish? wink

enough smilies for ya dennis?

EEEEEESSSSSSSHhhhh

Our poor girl has gone and mucked herself up!!!!

My my....on a serious note though Jen I do happen to miss your presence on AIM but I suppose I will somehow find the will to live.....*le sigh*

Well I hope you remain safe there..... don't become an alcoholic for goodness sakes!!!! And i hope you get that job soon enough.

Would have posted here earlier but I don't frequent Atlanta, or it's thread, that much. I will be praying for you sister and hope everything comes out swell.

Knock 'em dead!
