Caleb Carr novels

I think that in the hands of the right director and screenwriter, both The Alienist and The Angel of Darkness would make great movies. The characters are all interesting, the settings are great and I'm jazzed about the idea of a 19th century profiler. What do you think?

I think the Alienist was optioned about 5 years ago, but got stuck in development hell. It would have been a good film. I want to know who would have played Teddy Roosevelt...

Yeah, that was at Scott Rudin's prodco. They just couldn't get it together and Rudin finally told Carr they just couldn't do it.

Too bad Carr's first excursion into screenwriting, the "Exorcist" prequel, is rather half-baked.

John Malkovich as Kreisler
Matt Damon (yes, Matt Damon) as Moore
Russell Crowe as Teddy Roosevelt
Kate Winslet as Sara
Ving Rhames or Michael Clark as Cyrus Montrose
Frank Muniz as Stevie
Rachel Leigh Cook as the maid

And Brendan Gleeson as J.P. Morgan

Good cast list.
Did you ever see the TNT telepic on TR and the Rough Riders? Tom Berenger played Roosevelt, and did a fantastic fucking job. I would love to see him play the guy again.
And thanks for not putting Haley Joel in there as Stevie.

Malkovich could nail Kreisler's disintegration throughout the book perfectly I think.

Berenger playing Roosevelt was the damn gig of a lifetime for him. He was awesome in "Rough Riders," a movie I would've paid money to see in the theater.

That's Berenger on the right.....

Somebody get John Milius his next directing gig!!!

I should add, David Keith as Teddy Roosevelt in Milius' "The Wind and the Lion" was also pretty good.

Does Milius even have anything in the pipeline? How involved with Conan 3 is he?

Just seeing the previews for "Gangs Of New York" made me realize that someone like Martin S. could've made "The Alienist" utterly rock.

Peace. eek!
