Discworld movie, anyone?

Anyone else here reading Terry Pratchett?
What do you think? Would a Discworld movie be a good idea?
I think it would, with LOTR and all going on now, and if done somewhat in the style of Monty Python's Life of Brian... Jim Hensons Creature Shop could do the trolls and the Librarian and stuff. And the cast would definitely have to be British.

Any ideas?

What's Discworld?
Imagine Tolkien as done by Monty Python and Douglas (Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy) Adams. Its a series of books about a fantasy world shaped as a disc. The disc sits on the back of four gigantic elephants, which in turn stand on the back of an even bigger turtle that swims through space.

Pratchett takes every fantasy cliché and, here's the important thing, thinks logically about them. As an example: Have you ever seen a female dwarf? Well that's because they look exactly the same as the male ones. Dwarf reproduction is a very courteous affair where the dwarf as discreetly as possible tries to find out the sex of the other one.

And so on. Try reading one. They don't need to be read in any particular order, but it is good to start with the earlier ones. If you enjoy Douglas Adams you will probably like Discworld as well.

Aren't they mumbling about a Discworld movie, along with the Good Omens project?

Well, I heard that the Good Omens project pretty much is dead. Terry Gilliam couldn't secure the funds for making the movie, so it kind of fizzled out. Too bad... That movie would have been awsome!
I haven't heard about any Discworld movie in a while. Pratchett was in talks about "Mort" about ten years ago, but apparently it was such a horrible experience that he gave up completely on getting his books made into movies. Or so I heard.

There are a couple of different "branches" in the series. They all feature the Discworld, but the main characters are different. Sometimes the branches cross over into each other.
"The Colour of Magic" is a good place to start - that was the first one. It isn't quite as good as the ones to come later, but the next one, "The Light Fantastic", is very good. I would recommend that you start with them in that order. If you get through those, you should already be hooked!

Several of the books were adapted for UK television and are still available on video, I think. Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters were both traditional animation, and Truckers was stop-motion.

I couldn't stand the animated Discworld.
I dont know... Probably was the clunky animation. But at least they had Christopher Lee as Death, which is a great idea. But if they ever make a Discworld movie, Death's voice should really be James Earl Jones.

Definately would love to see a Discworld movie, but which book would they base it on. Prefering the story arc of Vimes and the gaurds I would love to see something along the lines of Jingo or Gaurds, Gaurds. The Hogfather would be a really visually freaky movie, the very concept sounds cool, Deaths granddaughter tries to save the toothfairy from an assasin. Vern Troya for Nobby.
