BLOOD GULCH, the new tune from THE LUCKY NIGHTSTICKS

Blood Gulch
words - Nunziata, music - Makarewicz

Squeezed the trigger of that gun again
Red mist was all that remained of my friend
Two bases apart with killing on the brain
I ease in the hills and get a bead on Mr. Fuckchain

Blood gulch is the place where we take out the likes of God of Thunder
head shot the specialty of the man called called aCe, right in the face
Ned and Pad Crater they seem to get the last laugh from their nest in the cliffs
teleport right into a hail of lead and God forbid Mike Reeves is in the tank

Andy Brains has a penchant for grenades
Just ask Christwings as his lifeforce fades
From his perch in the sky the man called GOT, he smiles
His thermos is full and no teammate in sight for miles

I was invisible but vulnerable again
I do what I’ve got to do for my friend
Cesar takes aim as I reach for the RPG
a shot rings out and the man says “killing spree”

Drums: Murphy
Guitar: Makarewicz
Bass, Vocals: Nunziata

My sweet Lord, the BEST LYRICS EVER!!!!!!!!!!

And the song! Johnny, you outdid yourself with your funk guitar this time.

Only a few of us will get this, but it's an instant favorite.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!!!!

Jeez......
What's that supposed to mean, bulletface?
According to ancient legend, the "ha" is a telltale sign of finding something funny.
By reading the lyrics, I'm guessing it's one big in-joke. That said, the music is funky cool. Very smooth bass and laid-back guitar. The drums lay a mean groove.

[B]HOLY SMOKES[/B}

A song about the CHUD HALO sessions in which the act of shooting D-nice in the face makes the chorus.

I can’t believe it. Too good to be true.

And you actually sampled the game at the end!

And what a catchy little number.

Nice work, boys. Nice work.

For the most part, I play drums. But we always seem to have a blast with me on guitar-they always turn out to be real fun songs. This is no exception. One of my new favorites.

Between your skittery rhythms and funk guitar vamps, Johnny Mak, I think you play a LARGE part in defining the sound of the Lucky Nightsticks.

Notice how Micah deflty avoided saying if he liked the song.
He doesn't like it because the song chronicles the many times his character took the loss.
Notice that TrippingBillie didn't explicitly say it either.

The song's amusing, if a bit threadbare....I'm not ready to say I like it or don't like it yet.

But what I first noticed was the exemplary work - as almost always - of John, so I called attention to it.

I think he does define the "LN" sound more than either of you guys. Not a slight on you. I'm just saying - for my money - the signature LN songs and sounds are mostly related to him.

Damn, straight.

Even the song itself provokes smack talk.

A masterpiece.
Or, more accurately, "Mak" talk.

Dumbass. That's why aCe is always used as a ramming object for my bullets.
The comedy from this game and this tune never ends.
Steve, don't be upset because you have no soul.
That's all I am to you Steve - a ramming object?

Wait, that sounds funny...
I'm not upset, fool.

Blood Gulch.

That title makes me want to vomit.
That's a good thing of course.

I don't get any of the jokes, but the song is well organized and is infectiously groovy. I was tapping and bobbing my head without even knowing it until the song ended. Good show.

Nobody asked me to sign a release!

Poetry.

Nicely worded and true-to-life.

Download the song. Discuss the song.

The song kicks all sorts of ass, Nick. You guys really did a helluva job with the lyrics, too. It's just got such a cool sound to it. I don't know, just sort of a really easy-going tune.

And it's always nice to hear Fuckchain in a song.....and shit, you've got the HALO announcer in there too!!!

Great song. I'd love to see a CD full of just game-related tunes. I'd buy it for sure.

Listening through this again the music still completely grabs me and pulls me in. I love the music to this track. I have a question on the vocals. Nick, are you using any effects on your voice? It sure doesn't sound like it, and I think that's great. I really dig the vocal sound on this track.

The other thing I get out of this song is that I need to play Halo. Now. I sure wish my uncle would take a break from working 14-hour days at MS and send me the damn system.

No vocal effect. For a song like this, no need. For heavier songs, it's boring without a little gristle.
HAHAHA!!!

I hate this schedule that I've had lately. If I hadn't been travelling so much I would've caught this the moment it was posted.

Hilarious. I downloaded it without really reading the posts, just to get a frist impression and as I'm listening I realize that it's about HALO. The guy I share the office with was wondering why I was laughing so hard.

Hilarious. Catchy and fun. I'm going to be humming this at work all day long.

One thing, though, I have trouble making out your voice Nick, during some segments. The music drowns it for me. Not sure if it's my ears (I seem to pick some very feint noises normally, but the loud ones in music tend to blur into the music.) or just the mp3 quality.
Excellent. Love the funky guitar. And the lyrics are a riot. Even though I've never played Halo, they'll also fit in Unreal Tournament.

On a technical note, the vocals do seem to drop out in the last chorus.

They're strictly background fodder underneath John's guitar solo
post #34 of 36
Got a chance to hear this proper - away from the computer headphones - at Nick's new place. The lyrics, of course, are inside, but the tune is very inventive and catchy. REALLY catchy, actually. Oh, and my pal in Cincinnati likes it too, so maybe some minor word will be spead up north.

Always a favorite. Then again, I'm in it.
