NO ONE SPECIAL, the new Lucky Nightsticks tune

Here's one that I love but have absolutely NO idea what the rest of you will think of it. From the upcoming CD, LEVITATOR:

No One Special

One step more and he’s inside, beneath a ceiling
Closer to the kitchen drain, spiraling evermore
Just like the ones before
Amounting to nothing is still something
No one special

Then he will know it’s safe to cry, beneath the ceiling
Older and older he grows spared from the seasons
Older and older he grows beneath the ceiling

No one special

Drums: Makarewicz
Vocals, keys, bass: Nunziata

Oh, and don't gloss over this. Give it a listen. Interesting moody electronic stuff here.

Interesting....the first part up to around 2:45 reminds me of slowed down New Order. Indeed very moody.

But I didn't care much for the nightmare carnival thing that followed it. But it didn't go on too long, and the outro starting at around 3:40 kind of helped save the song.

I love the song up to the instrumental section at 2:45. Very eerie music that comes together nicely for a haunting melody and the vocals are top-notch. I don't know that I've heard Nick's voice sound better.

I'm a little taken aback once the song arrives at the Carousel of Doom section and again when the song switches gears at 3:34. I do think there is some good stuff happening here, though. I see it as a song comprised of three distinct movements, but maybe that's just me.

Overall, another good offering. It sounds like LEVITATOR is going to be a rather diverse album.

I knew the opening part of the song was what would get people in the door, so I actually DOUBLED the length of that section because it was the most "accessible" part.

It originally became the carnival stuff about 1:38 in, but now it doesn't kick in until about 2:40.

I really do like lapsing into bizarrity on the LN tunes (Cure Light Wounds and Baked Screams from the last album got a little flak from some for their tangents). Also, I'd like to think that by jimmying with the structure of a song like this it gives it more replay value and lots to hear (especially with some good earphones).

I hope that this is one that grows on you over time, it's among my faves and I think John and I did a real good job even without MVP Murphy on hand.

Oh, and you find this song weird and all over map, be ready for the next one... LIQUID LUNCH. It's the sequel to Bedlam & Breakfast, only with words.

Heard an early preview of that one, and I think it's going to be fantastic. Lots of parts, but they ALL work for me in that one as opposed to just some here.

That's constructive.

This song is great. When we were first finished recording it, I thought it might be one of my favorites. A little time has passed and it is still up top, although some classics still take the top rankings, it still holds a special place in my short shorts. The ending is also the best part in my opinion, so maybe I am the asshole.

I love it because it's absolutely NOTHING like what you would hear on the radio. There is clash between the first part and the "carnival" but the wierdness of the lyrics makes it all tie in somehow. Can't explain it.

John only listens to his stuff in these songs.

This remains my favorite Nightsticks song by a goddamned longshot. I love it.

Either that or a midget, I suppose.
