FINALLY. This is the first track off of LN2, BEYOND THE BONES.

I really hope you dig this, I really do.

Beyond the Bones (words - N.N. music - N.N.) 3:15

Vitality is divided and allocated
and there's no way to unwind
the clock ticks leave a trail, never satiated
until the last breath is mined

Mortality's a strain
you can't leave it all alone
I'll take you to the place
for living beyond the bones

Whispers scream in neverending frustration
louder than the silence in Hell
the loneliest place in the stars will dim and fade you
I'm here to bid you farewell

Mortality's a strain
you can't leave it all alone
I'll take you to the place
for living beyond the bones

Living beyond the bones...

Nick Nunziata - Vocals and Keys
Steve Murphy - Drums

A rousing start to LN dos.

It starts off all Weezer/Hash Pipe-like, but the arrangement and chorus are pure synth weirdness. Also, it makes for good headphone listening with the stereo panning.

Ole' Nunz is becoming one with that magical keyboard of his...

Thank you, Micah.

The rest of you... GIVE IT A LISTEN!

Hash Pipe! That's what I was hearing at the beginning.

The lyrics fold nicely into the melody Nick.

I'm looking forward to the new album.

The new album seems to be turning out a lot different, which is a great thing. A little harder but also just more experimental-Nick getting wacky with the keys and all. This song has such interesting little moments, it's hard not to enjoy and I had nothing to do with it.

For the love of... BUMP.

Nice, but a lot harder then I expected, which isn't a bad thing.

It's also super LOUD, which I like (but that could of been due to my computer too).

No, it's loud. I want LN 2 to be in your jaws.

Then DAMN... it should be great.

I like it, and boy can you guys write good lyrics.

It sounds like something you'd hear in a horror flick or something, or a song from the 80's. A familiar but at the same time new sound.

That's cool, folks rarely mention the lyrics or vocals (because I'm not Chris Cornell, just me) and it's good to see people dig them.

You guys heard Hash Pipe, I heard Theme from Peter Gunn. What's wrong with me?

Anyhoo, I like this song also. I second Verbal's nod to the 80's horror flick. I hadn't even read his post and that's what popped into my head on first listen.

I really like the keyboard part, but that's because in many passages it sounds to me like a horn section. I'm a big whore for a horn section in a pop or rock song (that partially explains my obsession with DMB, as a sax player I had never really heard a sax part in a mainstream record. Kenny G doesn't count).

Which leads me to this question I was gonna post anyway, Nick. Although my LN experience is more limited than with Package, it seems LN is a bit more experimental and free with it's sound. Would you ever consider throwing in some horns (brass or sax) on a track or two? Hell, even sampling or programming some horns into your keyboard would be sweet, I think.

TB,

The next Package songs you may want to check out are TAKES and STARSCREAM, both of which have trumpet parts sneakily integrated into the song structure.

For woodwinds, 900 LBS. may rock your world.

As far as I know, tho, Nightsticks stuff is mostly guitar, bass, drums, keys, and vox, tho anything is possible when Nick, Steve, and John do their thing together.

This song is near perfection for me in terms of sound quality. It's a crystal clear recording, a damn fine mix job, and superb vocals/keys.

And Nick should get a drum credit on this as much as I, what with the editing miracle he performed during the "drum roll" part of the song.

And John had nothing to do with this song.

Finally "got" this song tonight. Don't know how to describe it - certainly a creepy song (helped that I was listening to it driving home from work tonight at 2:30 am). There's that heavy riff that's repeated throughout, and that's all I really heard before. So I kind of wrote it off as not my style. But there is a real catchiness to it too, almost like a nursery rhyme. Anyway, I’m surprised how much is going on in this song – sounds so simple at first. I know you guys hate this, but it really reminds me of this band out of Ohio by the name of Brainiac. The more I think about it, the more I can connect you guys to them. The were really into experimentation. They thought of their band more as a science experiment than a rock outfit. Anyway, I'll bring some of their stuff by sometime. To conclude, good stuff, gents.
