What's the greatest single book you've ever read? - Page 2

Hey, I was tired when I typed this! Take LOTR off of my "Hasn't aged yet" list. I still think Choke was an instant classic though. Phalaniuk is amazing.

Samhain, are you serious? I dug that book too and hung out with Klein a little bit a million years ago. Did you read Dark Gods?
Oh absolutely. PETEY is just a classic. One of my top 3 favorite short novels.
I even have the whole run of TWILIGHT ZONE magazine that he used to edit back in the early '80's.
I wish the guy were a little bit more prolific for God's sake! I mean one novel, 4 short novels & a handful of short stories in 20 years? C'mon! It's frustrating as hell.
Back around '86 I heard that he had another novel due to be published called NIGHT TOWN,but I've never seen it. Some sourses say it was published, but others say it was not. I believe the latter because I've searched for years & never seen a single copy of it for sale in any form much to my dismay.
I'm begining to think that THE CEREMONIES is going to remain his only published novel. Too bad because the guy has gads of talent.

So when did you hang out with him? What was he like? Any interesting stories?

Samhain, I don't know about Night Town but I can try to find out (a friend of mine is still in touch with him). He is an interesting writer. It would be a shame if he has turned into a horror version of Salinger, hoarding piles of completed works in his apartment...

I met him when he visited my college town. He was a friend of my sister's and looked me up when he got there. He was fun to hang out with, the kind of person you could banter and argue with for hours about movies and horror and fiction. I talked to him one more time after that and I think exchanged a couple of letters, but ultimately lost touch.
