Thanks Blofeld

Well, per your recommendation, I bought "Summer of Night". I only got a hundred pages in and had to run up to the ninth floor to sit in my girlfriend's room.
Why?
Because my rommate was at work and I was too scared to be alone.
This guy is one HELL of a writer. Thanks again.

It does twist the dials, don't it?

BTW, follow that up with Children of the Night and A Winter Haunting. Preferably in that order.

SWEET!

You're welcome!

I had to come to this thread because I saw thanks being proferred to Blofeld, something which I am wholeheartedly against (I mean, the dude tries to kill Bond like every third week...we can't just HAVE that, now, can we?), and then I saw what the topic was.

SUMMER OF NIGHT is the cat's ass, no doubt about it, and STILL the only horror novel that scared every living shit out of me. CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT is a fine, fine book, but much more Indiana Jones'-ish in its adventure type tale than it is scary.

But A WINTERS HAUNTING? What fresh hell is this?!

A Simmons tale? I recall when HARDCASE came out I was the first to ferret its existence from the mire, as it was non-supernatural in genre and unexpected by all, but A WINTERS HAUNTING?

Elucidate, please, or I will send penguins to eat your balls.

You and your goddamn subreferences! It's like playin' cards with mah brother's kids!

Sorry. Channeling Billy Bob from Tombstone there for a second.

Thanks for the Blo, info!

I mean, thanks for the info, Blo!

Thanks, Blofeld!

I just got done with A WINTER HAUNTING, I loved it so much I read it in one sitting.

After I am done with the few books I want to read now, I'm going on a Simmons shopping spree.

Dude, you have great taste.

Good on ya! You got some reading to do, son.

You're welcome.

If you want to go horror, look at Song of Kali or Carrion Comfort or Summer of Night or Children of the Night. If you want hard-boiled, go for Hardcase. Sci-fi: Hyperion, Fall of Hyperion, Endymion, Rise of Endymion are your tickets to joy. Thriller type stuff ... ah, hell. It's all good.

Hardcase next, for sure.

Well, despite visits to three MAJOR bookstores, Simmons' other horror stuff was nowhere to be found. I am waiting on Hyperion for the summer and
I wanted a new book right away though, so I eshewed ordering and took your other suggestion to Bluntmatt in the "Best Book" thread and picked up "Boy's Life" by Robert R. McCammon... so, Blofeld, I noticed you have a son... does he need an older brother? Someone to buy beer for him, help him with girls and devour his dad's book collection?
Call me, let me know...

I'm also having a hard time finding Simmons' books, it's odd.
Nope. But I'll take a friend, one to whom I can say, "No. You can't borrow my books."

You will love Boy's Life. I promise.

Yeah... s'cool... I guess...

Sounds good to me, Blofeld.

And Tony, it is strange. I'll probably order Song of Kali when I finish up with school for the year. Its still a little cool here in Boston and I think I want to wait to read that one until its sweltering... I think it'll add to the atmosphere.

I found The Hollow Man at a used bookstore and I might get into that one because Hardcase could be a while.

Damn, I love this guy.
