Has anyone read American Scream: the Bill Hicks story ,by Cynthia True?

Great Fucking book.
I just finished it 5 minutes ago.

Bill lead a beautiful life. He was truly ahead of his time.
I cried like a baby at the end of this book.

A really great book, if anyone has read this, care to discuss?

so, no one has read this??

Classic moment: When Denis Leary walks off stage at a comedy club, and the owner says "Hey, that was Bill's material you just did!"....leary scuttles quickly away.

and thats when Bill was alive.

Yep, I read the book and it's certainly great that it exists. However, the lack of energy in the writing turned me a bit off. It's almost as if True didn't get how amazing Bill was. And I thought Garafalo's foreword was bad news. Of course, like you, the end hit me really hard. That guy was something special. There simply needs to be more written about him.

Read it a few months ago and dug it. I wasn't too surprised at the Leary bit. Comedians tend to steal each other's stuff all the time. Hicks did it better anyway...

Speaking of stealing, I stole a line from one of his letters to his then girlfriend, and put it in my wedding vows.

"Without you, life is meaningless motion..."; sumthin' like that. Thought it was a beautiful statement.

Well , the good news is that Bill's close friend- kevin booth- is also writing a book about Hicks....it should be a lot better. American Scream isnt at all bad, but it did lack something....so stay tuned for the next book.

I will find it and read it SOON, and reply to this thread. I love Hicks. I discovered him wayyyyy back when he was in Preacher, but never read the book.

Wonderful, wonderful man. Too good to really exist among us mere mortals, to be honest. I haven't read this book, but damnit I want to. Now that I know it's good, I'm on it.
