Come one come all.
This was posted from another thread.
Lets get this thing rolling.

The first suggestion I give would be MEG. Nick seems to think its cool so I think we all ought to give it a go.

Who ever is in please post here. I nominate myself as liason. Once we get a few members going. I would like to offer my services. I can get everyone's email or chat number ICQ, AIM, etc or both.

I can then send a message out to everyone at once to let people know of upcoming discussions, etc.

Check out the last thread and see if your interested: summer reading

Alright, I will set something up next Week. I will email eatch of you, and we will go from there.

I say give everyone 2 weeks to buy, bogart, or steal a copy, and then we can commence reading.

I say probably so many chapters a week, and then we can discuss. That way everyone is up to speed, and no one gets any suprises.

I have a copy and it's a great book, so sure.

Ill be in

Count me in - so MEG for sure?
Someone clue me in...what is MEG? Link or something please
post #11 of 33
It's about a giant Megalodon shark (Megalodons were the prehistoric equivalents of Great Whites and grew to like ninety feet) reemerging in the present day to eat lots of people, while this one guy who saw it once (and was ridiculed for everyone for it because they don't believe it) is haunted by it, and has to go after it. It was written by Steve Alten http://www.stevealten.com

So when do we start? Do you need to get our email addys or anything so we can be contacted? Let's get this moving!

Ok, here's the thing. Lets keep this simple and try to use the boards since everyone is here.

We can use email, but I don't want to have to do that.

I will opt for email though. Anyone can email me on my yahoo account odetoash@yahoo.com if they will be out or something, but I don't think this will be necessary unless in extreme cases.

-----------
Now, everyone go get yourself a copy and once everyone has one post to this thread, and then we can start. I will give everyone one one week from today. So by next Monday.

I usually read about a chapter a night so lets discuss how many chapters we want to read before we start discussing it, or some other logical discussion point.

Meaning using the boards for active discussion? I guess putting up a specific thread about the book?

BTW, picked up MEG today and I am half way through. That is an accomplishment as I have a 6 month old at home

Yes I will post a topic thread accordingly. As to not piss off someone who hasn't gotten to that point or hasn't read the book yet and doesn't want to see any spoilers.

And now she's finished it. My wife can tear through a book like a hot knife through butter.

And if I remember right the book reads like a '57 chevy, fast and loud. I really enjoyed it. If I can find my copy I'll join in.

Got my copy of MEG last night. Purposefully not reading any of it until we start though. So, count me in for next Monday.

cool

If your not ready next Monday, you can always play catchup. Its not like our discussions will go away. They will still be on the boards to look at later.

I'm going to my local B&N tonight to check for a copy, if not I'm overnighting one from amazon.com. I will be ready for Monday.

I propose we read all the way to the 6th chapter: The Reporter. If this seems like too much or too less to read in one week let me know.

I would like to start discussing it not next Monday but the monday after. That's April 15

Let me know what you guys think.
That works for me
I'm in. Read it a few weeks ago, but it was fun.

It does read like a 57 chevy, blood red at that.
What's the reading assignment for Monday?

Read up to the 6th chapter - "The Reporter" Its only 45 pages. If this is too much, speak now or forever hold your piece. (Yes I spelled it that way on purpose )

So I started Meg last night ... and before I knew it, it was 2AM and I'd read 125 pages...

Breezy and fun. I have a few "motivation" problems, a few character moments that ring false to me ... but, all in all, quite a fun read.

I look forward to the discussion.

Does it happen to be possible to start up in this club at a later time? School still demands it's attention and well...I can't just fluke that off. only so much you can do with a full time job...college...significant other....developing ideas for a portfolio for film school....whew summer will be a tad bit easier.

So is it possible?

The club will go on without you. You can start whenever you are ready dude. I suggest not reading any of our discussions once we sart something you haven't read.

I will post spoiler messages before each discussion.

What happens if I read the whole damn book this weekend? This is going to make for either a really kick ass action/adventure movie or one that is cheezy as hell. Let's hope for the former.
