That site rules. I never knew how much Giger was fucked over by FOX/Fincher for Alien 3. That's kinda sad.

I interviewed Giger once. He was miserable and mono-syllabic. He continually complains about how Hollywood fucks him over, and then goes back for another pay cheque. And then complains about it. And then signs up for another movie. And complains about it. And so on.

Nah, he's a commercial artist who's had various pieces of work rejected, altered or removed from display. Only in the affluent West would that be classed as censorship. If he's thrown in jail for putting pen to paper, then he can cry foul. Let's see how far he gets in Saudi Arabia or China. Nobody's stopping him doing his art, and nobody's stopping him from putting them on the web for the world to see. He makes a living from his art, and gets more respect and commisions than most living artists. Poor him.

I wouldn't say he's crap, but he is derivative and seems to keep ploughing the same creative ground over and over again. I'd respect him a lot more if he'd do something different instead of the same old bio-mechanical schtick.

Well that is sorta true. I stil did his stuff though.

I wonder what he could do with photoshop or photo collages.

I'd take Dan's point and run. Giger's done some great stuff with sculpture, and his forays into indusrial design. But the paintings are boring, and he plays the same themes endlessly(a reflection of egoism and arrogance, perhaps).

Still, I'd love to see Giger try his hand at (serious)architecture.

Not much to those boards outside of the print. I thought maybe he actually designed the board itself. I had a strange picture in my head of someone sliding down a mountain on a board made of human bone.
