Roll Call

Time to find out who frequents our little west coast Chudderific home. Post your:

name
location
and what the view looks like from home!

Burke
San Francisco, Ca
I live less than a block away from both Golden Gate Park and the Pacific Ocean... so my view is pretty sweet!
Sacramento, CA. Capitol of the Golden State. The view from my place of work would be of the Earthlink West Coast Call Center...former home to CHUD's own grendel.

Unfortunately the view from home is unremarkable under blue skies. But during an electric storm it's beautiful to stand in the solarium and look up at the lightning bolts.

My name is my Handle.

Granada Hills California

Well I see a street right in front of me and then some mountains behind me!

It's the Valley for a reason.

In between Hollywood and Echo Park, I be in the foothills of Silver Lake. My view is limited by a wall of shrubbery, but if I drive up the next hill there's a sweet view of downtown LA. I like it here.

818 joke courtesy of the movie Go.

Rows of Giant Mutant Palm Trees, and hills. When it's clear, you can see snow-covered mountains beyond the hills. From my bathroom window you can see cars going by on the 134 on the distant hillside.

The hills above Burbank. Glendale California is on one side of my street and Burbank is on the other. I can see Southwest across the valley to Universal Studios, out to the Southeast way past downtown Los Angeles, to the West out to the mountains, which hide the ocean on their other side. I can see Dream Works, The Burbank Studios and most of the valley. All of the above is, of course, only when the skies are clear or about 100 days a year, in other words.

Mostly I can see houses and buildigs and a shit load of green from the trees, down below. Its interesting tht it is almost impossible to see my house from anywhere, yet I can see just about anything in the valley.

The drinking place (Will's BBQ) sits above the playground and the tress and is a good vantage point to wax poetic after a snootful of old Will's homemade kaluha or sangria.

Fom my Florida home, where I am now writing to you from, I only have the wide ocean and blue skies to look at. I can see Hulk Hogan's house from here and its a beauty.

Too bad I'm gonna miss you in May. Maybe I'll be there in June or July...

Django...you gonna be home? wink

Kronos my friend, I will be.

Things happen in August.

Let's just say...

"Getting BACK was only the beginning..."
OK, August it is. I think even though I don't have a particular Convention reason -evil Creation, evil Creation- I'll be coming down to Burbank at least over the Labor Day weekend.

We'll confab later.

Meanwhile my boy comes back into my midst this week...a once and future Chewer.
Sweet.

While the convention is not a main reason this time around, The Team and I plan to harass The Chin at the L.A. Fango Con on the 17th and 18th...
The line here in The Capitol City to have The Chin sign his book was about 6 hours -from someone I know who stood there. He seldom comes here so they figured all of Sacramento better come out to meet him.
Our paths have crossed many times before, The China and I. But this time, it's personal...
Do you speak in taglines at the dinner table as well?
Of course. What's sad is when HAM is around and we go off into communicating thru ONLY tag lines or obscure lines.

Born by the code, die by the code I guess.

Lovely Sacramento, CA.

Actually, CITRUS HEIGHTS, where it is neither A)High (in elevation...I am surrounded by stoners and cranklabs...then again, who in CA isn't?), nor B)Overly plagued with fruit-bearing trees.

From my house (house? HAH! Apartment...) to Kronos' (and my) former Corporate Plaza it is 17.9 miles. At 4:00 in the morning (1/2 hour before my shift started), it took me 12 minutes to get there. Sometimes, I almost miss that drive...

From my window one can see a shrubbery, direly in need of trimming, if indeed the blinds were open, which they almost never are. I'm working on my "Goth of Summer" anti-tan.

From my sliding glass door one can see my balcony, or, rather, balconIES, as the roots of the Formosa tree that was cut down last year (the only good thing ABOUT my apartment) have decided to stay near me but a while longer, and have shattered the concrete and are threatening the wood of the balcony itself. This is humor.

From my place to Mile High Comics in Anaheim (let's not lie, folks, it's really in Orange...I mean, what the hell, one side of the block is Orange, the other, Anaheim? Please...put a vacant lot in there or something...) is (if departure is 3:45am) a five and a quarter hour drive, provided the vehicle is capable of both the necessary speeds and the necessary cohesion to make the trip. Also, there are seven turns. Four right, three left, and that includes gasoline stops.

There ya have it.
I know Mile High Comics. They used to be cool.
Indeed. There has been a descent of late, say...about the last half decade?

There is an increasing derth of cool comics shops. Pants happen.
Yet there is a place...
A wondrous place...
On the Road...
The Ridge of Fruit Road...
FRUITRIDGE ROAD!

Take I-5 South, exit Fruitridge, travel East.
It's at the SE corner of Fruitridge and Florin.

And there's a Fish-N-Chips place next door with respectable calamari!

Come grendel...join me for a fabulous adventure!

I get all my kids' Spidey comics there.
August is a GOOD time to hold a Brazilian BBQ.

Thus far, I have heard from kronos and probably grendel that they would be available. Nelson seems likely to join us. I will send a limo for Django, as I always do, just to keep us all honest. The surprise is a certain Indiana Chewer may be out well before then, (I have to ask him first, maybe as soon as next week.) at least if I have my way AND if I allow him to walk up the hill from his poolside, tree encrusted abode and join us. Enough excellent chapters written equals a day of chowing down with the CHUD Westcoast crowd.

If I am away on some secret mission, I would fly in for such a confab. The unveiling of the new Will project may take place then. The last one is now officially finished.

I believe that women CHEWERS should attend, in which case it should become a two day affair. Sky, Diva are you up for it. LA isn't that far from New York. Well, okay, it is, but what the hell.

All others are welcome, even liberals. No poitics are allowed to be discussed. No arguing is permitted. DO YOU HAVE THE BALLS?

Only a month or so late!

Pete
Portland, Oregon
View is behind my house on the NE side and filled with other houses built around 1909 like ours, some borded-up windows, some broken-down cars and a gray, overcast day. We have a big backyard though, with tons of plants and vines covering the fences so resistance to the ghetto-look and a slow, crawling jungle transformation are in full effect.

Bump for fun, bump for joy.

Shill for Chudwest???
I would never pay for anything so crass as shilling!

However, CHUDwest is happening and I may have a little extra cash laying around in the vault room somewhere. Let's see................

I have snailmail on it's way to grendel...I'm going to find the bastardo before...

CHUDWEST '02!
Should I continue with those ... um ... "initials" we IMed about last night, kronos?
Yeah...as long as it doesn't cost...
It'll cost, but I'll get an estimate... various levels of service, etc.

You gonna hire someone to "service" me? Coooool!
Yeah, but I'm afraid that for what we can put together, the servicing won't be all that great. Unless we hire Bug-a-boo

I'd settle for Halle Berry.

Which, by the way, it not very far from CHUDWEST '02. Thought I'd just throw that in there.
What is CHUDWEST, Will?
CHUDWEST is a state of mind...
and a fullfillment of living.
Chew on this; Unfortunately, no one can be told what CHUDWEST '02 is. They must experience it for themselves. Whoa! Haven't I seen this post before elsewhere? OMG! Deja Vu! There is a glitch in the Matrix! It means somebody changed something.

Fear not, for Neo, Morphius and Trinity will not be at CHUDWEST, as they are working and will miss out on all the fun. That still leaves Joe Panteleano (sp) doesn't it? He's a fungi. Well, time to go I am starting to pun again.

Oh yeah, and nothing has changed.

37 days 16 hours and 44 minutes until the end of the world, I mean CHUDWEST '02.
Chudwest '02 . . . I don't know, it sounds like a partner-swapping party to me . . .which I am not against . . .

truly, a bad weekend for me as my kitchen is being remodeled starting that same week . . . maybe the next gathering I'll show my face
post #46 of 70
Ripley you own your own home?

That's pretty good. And make sure you get a really good contractor and stay on his @$$.

My girlfriend just got done having her whole house remodeled and the guy was sticking around for some 6 months. Really got her in the hole money wise.
That's good advise, thanks! I have been getting quotes from hopefully good contractors. We are replacing our tile counters with granite and buying all new stainless steel appliances. I cannot believe I am about to buy $7,000 in appliances.

Bought a new home 5 years ago, watched it being built. Took 5 years just to do the landscaping, put in a spa, etc. Thank the Goddess the SoCal housing market is off the hook!
While houses in the Sacramento/Elk Grove/Laguna/Davis market have doubled and sometimes tripled.
Trust me Kronos they are super expensive around here too.

Everyone is looking for a house and very few people can find them. Even in the Valley itself.
Yet CHUDWEST '02 is coming!

Not a moment too soon...
