PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- The risk of birth defects in children born to couples who are first or second cousins isn't as high as many experts had believed, according to a study that sheds new light on a practice that is stigmatized in many Western cultures.

The study released Wednesday says married cousins are still more likely than unrelated couples to have children with a birth defect, significant mental retardation or serious genetic disease.

An unrelated couple has about a 3 percent to 4 percent risk of having a child with such problems. But for close cousins who are married, that risk jumps only 1.7 percent to 2.8 percent, the study said.
Man, me & my cousin were raised in the same house, so even though he is a hot 18 year old sex fiend, I just couldn't do it.

I read that yesterday I think. I just totally forgot to post it. I totally wanted my second cousin last summer. Shes so hot, redheaded.

Of course they could always use birth control and/or abortion.

Once again, reporters mutilate the english language (but still not quite as bad as technical writers for software, or managers trying to impress people):

"The study released Wednesday says married cousins are still more likely than unrelated couples to have children with a birth defect, significant mental retardation or serious genetic disease."

So what about unmarried couples who just screw around without that license? What about them? Safer?

BTW, if you're married, you're related. Try "couples not related by blood" or somesuch.

"An unrelated couple has about a 3 percent to 4 percent risk of having a child with such problems. But for close cousins who are married, that risk jumps only 1.7 percent to 2.8 percent, the study said."
Because 2.8 percent is a higher risk than 3 or 4 percent, ya know.
