Birth Control is not covered by medical insurance.

Viagra is.

What message is being sent out?

I just verified this with my own perscription plan with Merck-Medco, through United Health Care.

What the fuck kind of bass-ackwards bullshit is that? Viagra should count as a cosmetic enhancement, if anything, and most job-related insurance won't cover cosmetic procedures.

And the worst thing about it is, there's probably some sort of pseudo-religious fuckery lurking around as the reasoning for it, i.e., a need for birth control implies a desire to have sex only for pleasure, while the Viagra might be needed by some impotent man who's trying to concieve.

What a crock of shit.

What health insurance do you guys have? Generally insurance won't cover it right off the bat but all you need to do is have your Dr. call/fax in a request that you NEED it and they relent.

Granted, one shouldn't have to resort to special requests from physicians while Viagra is handed out like lollipops at the bank...

Sadly enough, my insurance carrier just turned on to that Tier Level BS and my birth control went up $10 to $20 a month, fuckers.

I use Cariten and they don't cover it at all, unless you need it for medical reasons.
But you can usually purchase through the health department more cheaply than by visiting a regular doctor.

GC, that was a general comment of most systems, which apparently includes mine. Hastur & I haven't been dating for a long while now, we don't need it. wink
