An idea

As I discussed with Brian and Infinite this past weekend, there is a drive-in theater over in Bowman, GA. It is approximately 1 hour from my house here in Abbeville. It is a two screen drive in. Currently there are nightly double features on both screens (currently showing Red Dragon and Banger Sisters on one screen, Barbershop and Tuxedo on the other). You can peep a little info by going to www.highway17theatres.com , and then clicking on the pic that says "Go to Hwy 17 theatres" (There's several other ventures up on the main site) ANYWAY, I mentioned an idea, here it is:

"Ghost Ship" starts next weekend, Oct 25. Looks decent, plus SJR says that it's actually a good scary, gory flick. Perfect drive-in stuff if you ask me. So IF they get Ghost ship, why dont we get together Saturday Oct 26 and go down there, tailgate before the movie (we could stop in town and get pizza, drinks, take the cooler, whatever, they don't care what you bring), and take in a good horror flick at the drive-in. I'm pretty sure I can get Christina to go, and probably Matthew too. Maybe a couple others. ANyone down jsut respond here.

The way it's set up you listen to the movie over FM radio frequency, so we could take lawnchairs to set up or whatever, and crank the movie up on a couple of jam boxes, and have the car stereo up with the windows rolled down. I've been don there a couple times. The last time, we had a nice size group of family and friends and that set up worked pretty well.

where is this from Columbia?

It's on Highway 17 in a little community called Dewy Rose, Georgia. But the city they draw their patrons from is Elberton, a decent size city about 7 miles from the theater. From Columbia, it's 1 hour 45 minutes to Abbeville, where we could meet, and then a solid hour to the drive-in. So from Columbia, it would be a bit of a poke, as they say.

Hey, I'm in.

Yeah, unfortunately the GM at the restaurant I work out is hunting in North Dakota all week, so that has me managing the joint every night this week. And usually I've got Fridays and Saturdays off...

Looks like I won't be able to make this one.

However, I'd love to go to a movie at a drive in sometime! How far would this be from Greenville, SC?

Hmmm. Well, perhaps we should do this another time. Infinite and J. Bishop seem to have prior commitments, and on the Abbeville end, Christina has a wedding shower, and Matthew has to work. So it looks like the numbers won't be too good for a drive-in party. We ought to do it down the road though.

Brian, any interest in seeing Ghost Ship Saturdayotherwise? Perhaps a screening at Hollywood or Cherrydale? Could be a possibility for me if you're up for it.

Oh yeah, the drive-in isn't getting Ghost Ship this wkd anyway. They are getting Jackass and The Ring however. Saw The Ring yesterday, it was quite good. It's like 'What Lies Beneath' and 'Sixth Sense' had a baby and named it 'The Ring'.

Thanks for the idea J6P!! I'm gonna try and organize something like this for the NC Chewers as Abbeville's a bit of a trek. There's a drive-in in Albemarle NC that's close to both Charlotte and W-S chewers.

Here's the showtimes for Ghost Ship saturday at HOLLYWOOD 20 (the times at the Cherrydale haven't been posted online yet, but that theater is cool with me too once we know times):

HOLLYWOOD 20:
Ghost Ship 3, 5:15, 7:30, 9:45, 11:55

The only two time at that theater that don't work for me are 3 pm and the (essentially) midnight show (having to drive back to Abbepatch and all)

I'm game for just about anything...

Just checking in. The 5:15 or 7:30 will probably be best choices for this one, but I still don't know times at Cherrydale, which is an acceptable alternative. Brian C. if you had any time that works better for you just name it.

Any upstate chewers (besides Brian and I) wanting to plug in to this one feel free.

Dinner after?

On a seperate note you mentioned a haunted house, there's one heading out (or into depending on perspective) of Greenville on Hwy 25. I don't know if it's worth a damn, but it is sponsored by a radio station, though I can't remember which.
