UK Chewers

Are we going to meet up for some big release this year?
That'd be cool, although I'm expecting a "big release" of my own in August - the birth of my son - so I've written off my social life until 2005 at least (I'll come out of hibernation for Episode III and Indy IV).

But I'll see what gets arranged and I might be around...

Shouldn't be too difficult Dan, you're only 15 miles down the road from me.

Wha? How do you know? My location is a closely guarded secret, revealed only to my elite robot badger guards...

Aren't you a filthy Manc?

Well, I used to be. I've now moved to the leafy suburbs of Cheshire in preperation for middle age. Where are you then?

Haydock - just outside St. Helens.
I figured it was somewhere around there because of the rugby thing. I went to college in Warrington.

Anyway, I know there's more UK chewers than this. Where are you all, ya lazy gets?
Sorry to chime in so late, but yes there are others. Well, at least one other!
I'm surprised Fett hasn't popped up yet. Maybe he's only pretending to be English to pick up chicks...
Hasn't worked so far wink

Yeah, I'd be up for having a pint or nine sometime.

Hmmmm....next 'biggie' I guess is Minority Report, but this will probably be too early.

How about Two Towers?

(Waves at others)

So many Northerners! I grew up around Manchester. But now I am in Brum.

I know, I know. Don't all cry for me at once.

I think it might be cool to meet. Depending on how many of you are actually serial killers, of course. Or whether I am.

I always forget - how many do I have to kill to be a "serial" killer? In theory, of course...

You ever watched a flick at Star City Alice?

Wandered around there a few times when I have been down in Brum (usually taking the missus to the Jewelry Quarter), but there was never anything on worth watching.
I'm a nice serial killer. I'll usually take you to dinner and a movie before going all Lecter.

But in all seriousness, TTT would be a spiffy idea, chaps. And chapettes.
I have been to Star City, Mr. Orange - it kept FOTR on for the longest, and it does have digital projection. I saw AOTC there. That said, considering the number of screens, the choice is really uninspiring - unless you're into Bollywood or the standard current Hollywood fare, you'll get no joy.

But in the main, I go to the UGC. They have this amazing deal where you pay a tenner a month for a card, and you can see any movie you want in any UGC cinema, as many times as you want.

It wasn't worth it so much in London (where I used to live), as the UGCs only tend to have a few screens, and change often. In Birmingham it's brilliant, however, as there are two big multiplexes in the city centre, and they often show lots of cool and weird movies, and a lot of subtitled foreign movies.

They also host a lot of test screenings - I saw "Brotherhood of the Wolf" there about a year ago.

I could spend a whole weekend seeing films at the UGC Broad Street, which has half the number of screens of Star City - but be lucky to find anything I fancy enough to see once at the big place.

And a tenner for a month's worth of moviegoing - that's a bargain. I normally see about 10 to 20 movies a month.

See TTT? Don't you know that Peter Jackson RAPED my CHILDHOOD! The Two Towers will totally SUCK! LUCAS is a visionary GENIUS and PJ is just a HACK!!! I...

Ooops, sorry. I was channelling AICN for a minute there.

Yeah, seeing TTT sounds cool. But are we talking about doing it on the opening midnight showings? Cos I might be double (in fact, possibly triple) booked. Or not. Nothing is set in stone. It IS still 6 months away. frown

Well - I guess meeting up in Brum would be the logical choice. Equidistant for both Dan, Fett and myself.

I'm not arsed about driving and I don't mind picking others up along the way at my end.

What say you Fett?

Could you make it to Brum or would it be a struggle?

I don't mind coming down your neck of the woods if it is (providing the wife allows me the keys to ou…….sorry……..her car)

wink

I know it is early doors, but it's worth gauging opinion early.

I'd probably have to go through National Express. I'd be happy to pay my share of petrol if coming here was an option though.

It's no probs mate, if needs dictate, I can pick everyone up along the way.

Unlike many - I love driving.

Providing Alice doesn't get us all lost in some Brum-traffic-hellhole. wink

Let's see if we can drum up some more support and see where it takes us eh?
Alice makes no promises about the driving hell-holeness of Brum, especially since they are currently digging it all up and closing it off to build yet more insanely complicated traffic flows.

Apparently EU money is paying for all this.

But TTT and Chewers, yeah. Sounds good.
Whoa- a chewer meeting in Brum?!? I feel so special... Just curious as to whether I know any of you or if you've mostly all started posting seriously since my disappearance...

Anyways, I'm living in Birmingham. If you do all meet up let me know when and where?
Oh man, I forgot about you, Jen. Doh. You should definately try and come along for TTT.
Say, would there be a place for a lonely French guy in this gathering of yours?
Matt, that'd be awesome!

Of course, but you are aware of the English custom which dictates that when in the UK, a Frenchman must purchase seven pints of beer for each Englishman/woman in his company.

Mine's a Stella.

wink
Montpellier? That's a hike!

Mine's a red wine, by the way. In fact, since you're coming over, pick me up a nice bottle of Bordeaux...

Shouldn't that be a mineral water Alice?
Mine's a Kronenburg, 1664.
Mine's a Desperado, thanks. Oh, you mean I'll have to buy? Hmmmm well now that you mention it this trip might not be a good idea

Seriously, thanks guys, I'll definitely see what I can do. Only problem would be where to stay but even that can be arranged if it's planned on time. I hope I'll be able to make it, nothing would please me more than meet the whole lot of you.
Matt, if it comes to it, you can have my couch/floor.
It's a deal. Let me know early and I'll swear I'll do my best to come.

Certainly not! What an offensive suggestion!

Ok then, can we have a show of hands on TTT?
<raises hand, tentatively>
Yes, I am up for it.

TTT, that is.
I'll gracefully bow out as I know I'll be knee deep in shitty nappies and my wife will kill me if I see Two Towers with anyone else.
Late reply, sorry. I'm up for it, definitely, if I have money to afford the trip that is.

Dan, bring the wifey along. The more the merrier as they say.
The wifey ain't the problem - it's keeping a new born baby quiet during a 3 hour movie. I've heard gin works wonders...
I'd try smacking him in the head with an iron bar.
