Winnipeg Chewers Unite! Movie Night!

So we have now four Chewers who are confirmed Winnipegonians. That means there are probably like 25 more lurking. I would like to gather as many people as possible and do a movie screening, either at the theatre or at my place. I have an OK home theatre, and I think it almost would be better to do it here as there isn't anything super-interesting playing in theatres (except perhaps for Death to Smoochy or Frailty). Either way, it would just be cool to actually watch a movie for a change instead of endlessly prattling on about them here. Who wants in?

Is there any reason behind there being so many Winnipeg Chewers? Do you force your gimps into posting on CHUD?

I wear my older green chud shirts (I have 3) everywhere I go. I am an embassador of CHUD, dude. That, and Winnipeg is a big movie town in terms of people loving to go and see movies (although we do have a rather burgeoning film production center forming here now too). We have two Silver City cinemas (where currently all showings for all ages are 7.95 all day, as oppossed to the normal 12.50 they used to charge)as well as numerous 2nd run theatres. We even have our own theatre guide run independently of the theatres: <a href="http://www.winnipegmovies.com" target="_blank">www.winnipegmovies.com</a> . So, it stands to reason that lots of people from here go on the web to look for movie info. Unlike Montreal, where savages run the streets dressed as motorcycle gang members and shoot reporters for sport and profit.

*Wearing a beret and speaking in a smarmy French accent*

You wrected piece of prairie swine.

*Blows smoke in your face*

Hit is obvious dat Montreal is de best place for le cinéma hin Canada. Just go <a href="http://www.cinema.ca/indexmtl.htm" target="_blank">'ere</a> and look hat de choice of cinémas. 'ell I tink dat le Cinema Du Parc is wort hits weight in, how you say, or... gold! Dat's hit. While dose hassholes hat Famous Players charge $12.50 hat night, she is only $7.50 in de hafternoon. AMC turned le Forum into a 22-screen megateatre dat plays hall sorts of hart-house movies and hit is $9.00 hall de time.

One day, you may 'ave more theatres den us, but what good are dey witout pretentious French bastards to rip the movie to shreds?

Better late than never. Nick is sending me the special edition DVD set of the new Dune miniseries. That would make an awesome excuse to get a bunch of film geeks together in one place.

So far, we have the following geeks that are confirmed denizens of Winnipeg:

Rollo Tomasi (a.k.a. Capt. Smith)
Dj Homeless
Craig Cesmystruk
et moi.

I am sure there are more. I wear my classic green chud shirt everywhere in this damn town.

Is anyone still up for this ? Ludwig ? Rollo ? Daredevil ? Anybody ?

This shall be done !
Far be it from me to try and ruin anything, but meeting the Ludwig-ster is a chance you should not miss. However, there are some tips you SHOULD observe.

DO not overfeed it. It will then start farting and go to sleep on you.

It snores.
Bring towels for it to sit on. Check its pockets for games on the way out. (Poor fucker can't resist games.)

Do NOT give it rum. Giving rum to a Ludwig is like giving water to a Gremlin.

If you take it to Virgin Records it starts whinning like a spoiled baby near the candy in a check out line at the super market.

Other than that, you should be Okay. Your Ludwig should provide years of entertainment for you, if you keep it properly fed and cared for.

P.S. NEVER give a LUDWIG BEANS! NEVER!, Nor cabbage for that matter.

That is all.

Oh dear...

You left out "Make sure he remembers to wear his pants..."

So Winnipeggers, I've had an IDEA:

What we all should really be doing (if we haven't done so already) is:

a) After Fringe, purchasing memberships at Cinematheque
b) Picking movies we will all go to
c) Going out afterwards for Coffee, etc. similar to our Atlantean brothers.

What say you? Barring that, I have the full version of Signs on my computer now...

That sounds awesome Mike. I'm all for it, and I've been meaning to get to the Cinematheque for a long while now.

P.S: I also have the full version of SIGNS on my computer...

Oh My...

Canadians don't post too often, do they?
Not too often. Hell, I've been here quite a while and I don't even have my 2000th post yet...

Hey Winnipeg Chewers,

This is a little late but what the hell...

&lt;SHILLING&gt;

On Wednesday at the University of Manitoba, there will be a screening of short films created by this summer's crop of 16mm Filmmaking students -- myself being one of them. If any of you want to come out and check out some truly independent shorts, you are more then welcome. Don't know how many are showing (not everyone has had a chance to get their films finished) but you are guaranteed at least four, probably more.

There has been some talk of postponing the screening, but as of now this seems unlikely. If this status changes, I'll post letting everyone know.

The time and location:

Wednesday, August 7th @ 7:00 pm
University Of Manitoba Campus
University College Building -- Room 240

Again, this isn't a big event, but I thought I'd throw the invitation out to any of you Winnipeg Chewers who might be interested in coming out. It would be cool to meet you all...

Consider this your invitation.

&lt;/SHILLING&gt;
Just got a call. Disregard the above info, the screening has been postponed...

If any of you are still interested, e-mail me and I'll send you the new info once I get it...

(What's missing from this photo is the smell from all the BS that's flying through Question Period.)

I'm from the Nation's Capital, the only place in the country that during the lunch hour you can actually witness a 'federal crime' being committed on every downtown street corner.

By the way, since when does them western farmers and Newfies allowed to have computers?
