UMM QASR, Iraq (Reuters) - The southern Iraqi port town of Umm Qasr, where U.S. and British forces have faced Iraqi resistance for days, is now "safe and open," a British commander said on Tuesday.

Brigadier Jim Dutton, commander of the British Royal Marines' 3rd Commando Brigade, told reporters he hoped the first ship bringing aid to Iraq would arrive within 48 hours.
The supply line for aid to the Iraqi people starts here.

I remember when we took Ummm Qsr a few days ago and raised an American flag over it. And Iraq said we didn't have it, and conservos scoffed.

Remember that?

I believe in triangulation of information. Seeking as many sources as possible, putting them together and trying to sort out what the real truth is.

Anyone who thinks that EITHER side, or just about ANY of the media, in this are telling the whole story is an idiot.

well, most of us have a life and a job so we don't have the time to swift thru every single newspaper/web site, so we take our news from respected sources like the french-owned Reuters, matt drudge, or the World Socialist Web Site.

I don't really understand what any of that proves? People are happy to be out from under a dictator? The people of Uganda welcomed Idi Amin with open arms. How will they feel in five years is the question.

Nelson, do other things consume your time so much that you can't be a news-hound? Come on...

Everyone has time in their day for that stuff.

i don't have the luxury of staying at home and watching tv or reading every single site that has an opinion on this war. i work for a fortune 100 company, plus i do tons of freelance work for demanding clients. that, and family consume most if not all my time. i wish i could sit down and listen to cnn or al-jazeera for more than 10 minutes a day, but I can't.

i think no one here loses sleep on whether you tell the truth or not. don't flatter yourself. the only hate seems to come from you.

You should go back and read the thread. I didn't start the personal attacks here. Where does the hate seem to come from?

Who said we're losing? We'll win eventually. The point is that the government is lying about the situation - it's hairier then they let on.

And isn't there an offsite image linking rule, Nelson?

I think it's a great quote, I just doubt Jefferson meant it as an apology for imperialism.

Nelson, your sig is clear. You don't have to dismantle it.

Though, I would agree with Devin in that I'm pretty sure that he meant that only in the case of tyrants actually THREATENING our liberty, not ones who pose all of the threat of a fruit fly.
