Pledge Ruled Unconstitutional - Page 7

Heh-heh. So this is where you've been all morning Kronos. And I will agree with you Kronos. This is just a man getting back at his ex-wife(or were they even married to begin with? Seems I've got a couple different views of that)

I still don't agree the words should be taken out period though everyone can say it as they will and in some senses Christians can benefit from their constant sitting on their duffs and get active politically. Thing I dislike the most is the vast numbers of Christians who will rasie their voices or complain but never take the proper action they should be taking. Utterly unacceptable.

So in a way I can view this as a good thing. Maybe not what the ruling itself means. But the reaction that takes place because of the ruling.

Newdow and his child's mother apparently were never married but there is a custody battle...that's ultimately what this is all about.

The injured party apparently is Newdow...yet he uses his child. She's 8.

Appalling.

I was bored at work so I looked through some old threads.

This one contained the scariest fucking people ever.

Wow, Jabba. Just ... wow.

Jesus! That was something else! Was Devin's old board handle really The Lord God? I think that's cute!

I gotta give Devin and DaveB props for being far more patient and articulate then I could ever be.

Now, to all you Chewers with kids, do you know if they still do the pledge at school, and if so, is "under God" still in there? I'm curious as to what actually became of this.

It was when I subbed last year. Of course I'm in the anus of the Bible Belt where teachers will openly discuss religion in class and prayers end teacher meetings. It's kinda gross.

Not up here in Soviet Canuckistan -- that sort of thing really gets peoples' hackles up for the past twenty years.

Nevada says a big "FUCK YOU" to this and still uses "Under God". Also the Principal said "thank God" during a speech last year at the class graduation.

I'm pretty sure we never pledged allegiance to another country's flag in school, in fact. Our anthem still asks for special favours from God, though. I don't hear anyone complaining.

You want to know your first problem? God grants favors, not "favours". God is American.

Well no wonder he's a creationist.

Is that a Canadian burn, Seabass? Nice work but shouldn't you apologize?
We recite it every day. Kids are not required to, but they are required to stand and be silent while it is done. We have an ROTC that normally has a cadet who will read the pledge over the intercom. Then morning announcements.

Okay. I'm sorry God is an American.

Anyway, what was the big deal? It's just a ceremonial thing. I've asked god to keep our land glorious, free, etc. all my life, and I've even asked him to save the Queen from time to time. No skin off my nose and I'm firmly an atheist.

I totally agree with you, Seabass. I just couldn't miss a chance to rip one of our friends from the north.
I'd guess Seabass is too young to remember when Canuck kids said the Lords Prayer at the start of school.

Not quite, we stopped after third grade. I thought it was because we were nine - nine! - and didn't need such stuff any more.

I remember being read bible stories in the same school in the second grade as well.

Cool. I'll reread this thread the next time I hear someone say the boards used to be better back in the good ol' days.
