EDWARDS TO HOST POLITICAL MEETING AT HOUSE OF CONFEDERATE HERO

**Exclusive**

Presidential hopeful Sen. John Edwards [D-NC] is preparing to throw caution to the wind in confederate flag-sensitive South Carolina this weekend when he celebrates his White House ambition with a political gathering at the house of a Confederate hero, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal!

FULL STORY: <a href="http://drudgereport.com/ed.htm" target="_blank">http://drudgereport.com/ed.htm</a>
Try to avoid the obvious knocks at Drudge and deal with the fact that Mr. Edwards seems to be making quite the hypocritical gesture here.
Surely the South Carolina NAACP has something to say about this.

Uh...I used to live in South Carolina with my parents, who were caterers. We did jobs on plantations and mansions where confederate groups had gathered (although never FOR such a group).

Where's the problem? If you're going to condemn him on that logic, then black people need to leave the South in a mass exodus.

And if the South Carolina NAACP gives him grief over this, my view remains the same. I don't see this as an endorsement of the Confederacy in any way at all.

I'm curious..... could it be that there are so many meeting halls and such named after, or once used by, Confederate "heroes" that such a thing is unavoidable once in a while?

In any event, as long as he's not condoning the guy, there's no fire here. Now, if Edwards starts talking about doing more to honor his "proud Southern heritage", and starts in on a few verses of "Dixie".....

Almost entirely. The plain fact is, if you knew enough about history to make yourself dangerous, you could tie just about anything in South Carolina to something "Confederate." Street names, buildings that are historic, schools, donut shops, etc.

I think that the Confederate flag is now just a symbol for racism (and armed uprising against the U.S. at best) and should be taken down from about anywhere.

But I think its perfectly okay to celebrate some of the soldiers and generals who displayed courage and heroism. Believe it or not, not all of the Condererate Army were huge racists, like Robert E. Lee who believed his greater duty was to Virginia than the United States.

I have no problem with an Edwards meeting there, and its a pretty saavy political move really with all the other candidates looking like northern liberals.

No, didn't you know, everyone in the South was a slave-beating plantation master with no education and a penchant for buggering underage African females! Don't you read?
