"Go ahead. Send me a new generation of recruits. Your bombs will fuel their hatred of America and their desire for revenge. Americans won’t be safe anywhere. Please, attack Iraq. Distract yourself from fighting Al Qaeda. Divide the international community. Go ahead. Destabilize the region. Maybe Pakistan will fall -- we want its nuclear weapons. Give Saddam a reason to strike first. He might draw Israel into a fight. Perfect! So please -- invade Iraq. Make my day."

What he said:

"Go ahead, attack Iraq, imperialist Yankee pigdogs! With that bozo Saddam out of the way the path will be clear for one of my nutcase religious zealot henchmen to take charge of the country!"

How it was translated:

"Brothers, we must join our holy comrade-in-arms Saddam in his hour of need and help him defend our homeland against the Great Satan."

What he said:

Go ahead, make my day by getting rid of the infidel Saddam, create chaos in the muslim world and help me overthrow their west friendly governments. Drive thousands of gullible people to my recruitment centers. My enemy is helping me get rid of another enemy and brings me in a better position to hurt him in the future. I hit the jackpot.

What they want you to think he said:

Saddam is my best friend and partner in crime. We are plotting together to destroy you.

Precisely why I think now is not the time to be raining western bombs on arab cities. Now, more than ever, we need to be ultra-diplomatic - even if that means biting our tongues and letting the slow wheels of the international community do their job.

Right now, I fear that if Bush said that Saddam is a shapeshifter from the planet Absurdio and sent Colin Powel to present a B-roll from Independence Day on Fox news, people would go for it.

Oh yes the same people who cried Afganistan would be another Vietnam. Then when the Afgani's shaved their beards, blasted their music, threw off their burkas and thanked every American who came in and liberated. Yeah thats right you all shut up when those people told the world they were better off without the Taliban. You'll do the same with Iraq. Devin ask yourself this question why is Clinton happy with how things are progressing with Iraq?

I don't remember that much opposition on Afghanistan. It must have been a mirror universe.

And we're not discussing if this will come true. We're discussing what Bin Laden said.

P.S. so you now like Clinton?

Aren't we still in Afghanistan? Or am I high?

Also, what does Clinton have to do with anything? Next time you feel like using Clinton to make any point, just close your browser window and go read a book.

Uhh...what Afghanistan are you talking about?

That country is still in ruins with refugees galore, ongoing skirmishes that claim casualties regularly, and a government that can't support itself coupled with dwindling US aid.

That scenario you presented would be good for a Michael Bay film, but it's not what really happened.

I think EVERYBODY is happy with what we've actually done in Iraq, which is nothing. Letting the UN do their jobs. Keep pressure on Hussein. Keep the world's eye focused on him.

Where the percentage of people - Clinton included - happy with Bush policy drops off mightily is in the need for pre-emptive striking against a nation that poses no immediate threat whatsoever and a multi-billion dollar combat initiative when our economy remains in dire straits.

But you do realise that a quick war with no casualties is according to some people a way to revitalise the economy, because it allows the state to give money through the Pentagon, eh?

But what if it's not a swift war? What if the Republic guard decides to go guerilla? What if Saddam goes beserk and drops chemicals on US troops or Israel and it retaliates with nukes? What if the government of Saudi Arabia is overthrown and zealots take its place? What if it's Pakistan and we have a religious nut with nukes? What if oil prices rise to $80 a barrel, crippling the economy?

These are a lot of what ifs to ignore.

And a final question. Do you think North Korea would get so cocky if it didn't know you are already occupied in two different theatres of war?

Afghans Say 17 Civilians Killed in U.S. Raids

BAGRAM, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Provincial Afghan authorities said at least 17 civilians had been killed in bombing raids by U.S.-led forces that Washington says are aimed at rooting out remnants of the Taliban.

Haji Mohammad Wali, spokesman for the government of Helmand province, told Reuters an official of its Baghran district had reported the civilian deaths there after relatives came to the district headquarters.

"The people came crying, saying their relatives had died or were missing," Wali said by telephone from Helmand's capital, Lashkar Gah.

U.S. military officials told reporters Wednesday that B-52 and B-1 bombers had pounded a mountain ridge in central Afghanistan (news - web sites) after ground forces spotted about 25 armed Taliban suspects taking up offensive positions.

Twelve suspects were captured during the operation near the village of Lejay in the Baghran Valley Tuesday, U.S. military spokesman Colonel Roger King told a news briefing at Bagram Air Base, the U.S. headquarters in Afghanistan.
17 civilian casualties in an operation to get 25 people, but only yielded 12.

Now, I'm no math major, but...

One of bin Laden's (and other fundamentalists) biggest problems with the US is its presence in the Arabian Penninsula. Get the US out of there (via moving our troops and bases to Iraq), and we will no longer be defiling their holy places.

do you even read newspapers or watch the news? Burka's aren't gone from Afghan society - at all. Women are still being forced to wear them. just a couple of weeks ago a judge condoned the islamic laws governing Afghanistan, including the burka dress code. To say that it was all a big success based on the footage shown directly after the defeat of the Taliban at Kabul is pretty damn short-sighted.

Well color me blind then on Afganistan. I thought the main problem thats there now are the warlords still causing trouble. I focused on the best moments after Kabul and Khandahar fell. I admit that. Yes around and even in those cities there is still fighting. As far as Afganistan it was in ruins before we got there. I don't support going to war with Iraq alone. I guess some of you forgot that.

I think the only Afghanis who celebrated and thanks the Americans are the warlords who are gaining more and more strength in Afghanistan every day, and the poppy farmers who can basically grow it wherever they want without being caught, selling their wares to Europe and making thousands.

I heard the actual translation this morning and OBL went on and on about the Oscar nominations and something about his truck not starting.

Where have I made one of this lately? And when have they been not in response to some tiresome, unintelligent and unimaginative Clinton baiting? Get smart - it's not just a TV show.
