". I maintain that Israel, to some extent, is as responsible for the current fiasco as Arafat and the Palestinians. "

I agree with that. It was the bully statement that got me. Both sides have bullied each other, making it sound like Israel is the primary aggressor is what I had a problem with.

Former CIA man Robert Baer, the George Clooney character from SYRIANA, is convinced that Israel will bomb Iran's nuclear facilities in September. Let's hope he is wrong:

Our country would be done if that happened. I can't picture the American people getting behind Israel at all.Conservatives are infamous for their doubthink but as much as they love war, I can't picture even them wanting to spend more blood and especially money on another war.

Yeah, we would get our asses handed to us in short order.  If our leaders were smart, they would tell Israel to clean up their own mess.  Going forward, Israel won't be nearly as strategically important as it once was.

Well, there isn't an intifada going on right now is there?  Lets look at the Gaza war.  Israel repeatedly and purposely violated the ceasefire agreement, all in the hopes Hamas would start firing rockets.  They invaded Gaza and killed half a dozen people knowing Hamas would retaliate.  The Israeli PM was under investigation for corruption charges and he wanted a war to deflect this.

And also remember, the day Hamas got into power, Israel started openly assassinating dozens of Hamas members.  Remember, leaked cables have the US warning Israel that their current course of action would mean Hamas would come into power, Israels response, " That's what we want, so we can deal with Gaza with force."  Israel proceeded to kill around 1,500 people in retaliation for the deaths of 3 Israelis.  They attacked children as they were leaving school first.

Anyone who is educated on the matter, knows Israel has chosen expansionism over security at virtually every turn.  They want to drive the Palestinians out.  While, the Palestinians have been ready for peace for a long time.  Israels position is, why give peace if we have nothing to gain?

Remember, its the Israelis that kick out Palestinian families from their homes on a daily basis, to make way for Jewish families.  Its the Israelis that occupy Palestinian land.  Israel has over ten thousand Palestinian prisoners.  And, you also need to remember in occupied Palestine, the Israeli Army is savage, they routinely murder Palestinians for sport.  Throwing grenades in occupied territories as a prank is common practice.

It's very simple.  Israel has no excuse to occupy Palestine, to routinely murder Palestinians, to kick Palestinians out of their homes on a daily basis.  The fact Palestinians sometimes retaliate does not justify Israel being an apartheid racist nation.  All of this could easily be solved if Israel left illegally occupied lands, and stopped kicking out the indigenous Palestinians from their houses.  Everything else is just noise created by Israelis to complicate a simple matter.
