WHEN are we going to learn how stupid and self-defeating this strategy is? How many times has this backfired in the past?

Don't we call them freedom fighters when we like them and terrorists when we don't? Government hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Aren't we at war with terrorism? Have we already gotten so far away from the 9-11 attacks that we are going back to the strategies from the 80's that helped empower these types of people?

Apparently, we only hate the terrorists that are against us; yet if history has taught us anything it's that once we help them (and they help us) they are not going to hesitate to turn against us again. Except this time they are going to have the benefit of our training and weapons.

Or how about the irony of fighting Iran under the pretext of their support of terrorism, while we are making deals with terrorist orginizations?

The enemy of my enemy is my friend?

Yeah, Freedom Fighters when they go after someone we don't like, Terrorists when it's directed at us.

It's all semantics.

Hey, we're still <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/04/29/sprj.irq.main/index.html" target="_blank">"liberating" </a> Iraqi civilians!

Well, that's definitely not cool.

From the CNN article:

"Conflicting accounts emerged about Monday night's confrontation in Fallujah that witnesses and Red Cross officials said killed at least 15 Iraqis and wounded up to 53 others. Among the dead were three boys under the age of 11, Red Cross officials said."

U.S. military officials said they occupied the school originally because they had evidence that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein used schools to stash weapons.

Soldiers said they found no evidence that the Iraqi military stored weapons at this school, but they said they decided to stay in the building to keep control of the neighborhood.

I don't have a problem with soldiers defending themselves from armed civilians, but I do have a question: why were there no soldiers injured? Fifteen dead Iraqis (including some children), and fifty-three wounded, and no American casualties at all? What kind of self-defense is that?

And I like how we occupied the school because we had "evidence" Hussein was storing weapons in schools, but of course, none were found.

Sorry to derail the thread from the terrorism subject, but I just didn't want to start a new thread.

'Sokay, Singer.

I'm curious as to what some of the more war-supporting people here think of the fact that we're apparently stuck in a time loop, and we're making on of the colossal mistakes that created Al-Queda in the first place.

What kind of self defense was it in Mogadishu where US soldiers killed 500-1000 Somalis with only 18 US deaths (and a good portion of those were from chopper crashes/accidents, not enemy fire)?
Just because we didn't have any casualties doesn't mean it wasn't dangerous or worthy of self defense.

If the reports are accurate, we shouldn't be doing this. Let's wait and see what the Iranian people will do on their own before arming Mujahadeen II.
