Hannity Humiliated

Admittedly, I got this from lefty blogger Atrios at http://atrios.blogspot.com/, but it was just too funny to keep for myself. I guess this thread could very well be used as a collection of favorite media gaffes from your least favorite political pundits.

On with the show! (Atrios provides context at the beginning.)

Quote:
Anyway, the setup is that Hannity and Kennedy are talking about drilling in ANWR and oil generally. Hannity starts reading from report which he claims is from the U.S. Geological Survey. From May 17, 2001:

HANNITY: In 1973, the United States imported 36 percent of its oil. Today, it's almost 60 percent that we're importing presently.

ANWR production, based on the lower numbers, anywhere between six billion -- six-trillion and 19-trillion barrels. ANWR production could percent of this entire refuge, for 30 years.

KENNEDY: Well, that's not true. That -- that's just a bogus...

HANNITY: U.S. Geo -- let me read you...

KENNEDY: That's a bogus...

HANNITY: The U.S. Geological Survey estimates oil...

KENNEDY: This is a misreport. I guarantee you, Sean. But let me tell you something else.

HANNITY: Excuse me. Well, no, no. No. Wait. Don't tell me. I'm reading from the U.S. Geological Survey estimates. It could be as much as 16-billion barrels of oil, which would be the largest supply of domestic oil ever discovered.

KENNEDY: Let me see that.

HANNITY: Right there.

KENNEDY: You're reading from an advertisement by the...

HANNITY: No, I am not.

KENNEDY: ... Energy Steward Alliance.

HANNITY: Let me -- let me put...

KENNEDY: Wait a minute. This is not honest, Sean.

HANNITY: Get my still ready from the Boston paper.

KENNEDY: Sean, this is not honest.

HANNITY: Get my -- get my still ready from the Boston paper.

KENNEDY: This is not honest to say that you're reading from the Geological Survey.

HANNITY: Excuse me. Excuse me. Can I -- let's -- it is -- let me quote...

KENNEDY: No. This isn't -- this is from an energy propaganda.

[Kennedy reaches over and takes it out of his hands]

HANNITY: Give me my paper!

(LAUGHTER)

HANNITY: Can I -- I'm going to put up from the Boston -- hang on a second. Hang on a second. From the -- from the Boston paper. Here it is. This is from "The Boston Herald," your neck of the woods, hardly a right- wing paper.

KENNEDY: "The Boston Herald"?

HANNITY: Environmental...

KENNEDY: Are you kidding me? That's as right wing as...

HANNITY: Well, you -- you want to discourage everyone. This is the U.S.

KENNEDY: Well, this is not the U.S. Geological Survey.

HANNITY: Wait. Excuse me. Wait a minute. I have the survey. I have the -- wait a minute.

KENNEDY: Sean...

HANNITY: I'm going to show you the survey.
Someone in the comments at Atrios's site mentioned that it was quite something to see Kennedy playing keepaway with the paper while Hannity flailed desperately for it. What I wouldn't give to have seen that.

I have no idea who these people are, and that still makes me laugh.

Sean Hannity is a wildly popular radio show host with an equally popular debate show on Fox called "Hannity & Colmes" where he takes apart some spineless pseudo-liberal that no one on the left claims as their own.

The Kennedy playing keepaway is RFK, Jr.

US politics entertains and terrifies me in equal measure.

Check that...it's from two years ago.

Ah well we all gaffe from time to time.

Been listening to the radio show for a year now but haven't heard anything like this.

Is pretty funny though.

Sean Hannity would be frothing at the mouth if he didn't have a staff to wipe after him.

Your reading comprehension is improving. Very good! Now, if only we could do something about that "critical thinking" bit....

BTW, this isn't so much a gaffe, but a bald-faced lie to a guest about his sources, and getting caught when said guest knows the numbers are fishy. Sensationalist conservative pundits like Hannity, Coulter, Limbaugh, etc. are loathe to fact check, lest it get in the way of their inflamed rhetoric.

I'll work on mine when you work on yours wink

Well just as much as sensational liberal pundits like leaving off little details that totally change what the numbers mean.
P.S. I'll give you Coulter The Psychotic though.

Didn't you used to be a big fan of Coulter until we started posting all of the fact checking and quotes that proved she's a lying psychopath?

Wasn't a fan but I did quote her from time to time. And then there wasn't only articles being posted by a liberal side but also one letter that was posted on NRO that really sealed the deal. I actually stop posting her stuff a little bit before the fit hit the shan due to that article.

Am I perfect? Nope. And I'll gladly admit that. Sometimes my sources will be wrong. Does that mean I will always be wrong? No. But I'll take it when I am wrong.

And didn't many liberals here praise Michael Moore up until the inaccuracies of his work were pointed out left and right?

Just works both ways. I don't hold it against anyone.

If anything though, from reading her book I really want access to Lexis-Nexus to double check EVERYONE.

Not this liberal. I've taken Moore to task on several occasions for engaging in harmful rhetoric, and engaging in needless manipulation of the facts just to spice up his already-incendiary documentaries.

The service used by Al Franken in his wonderful book, Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot. Limbaugh lost the weight, but he's still an idiot.
