Some Nifty Sacrament News

Hey dudes, good news!
We were chosen to be on a compilation CD of artists form our school after our stellar audition last week. We're going to have one song, of course, and who would have guessed it, conservative little folk-minded Calvin College chose one of our most rawkin' tunes, "Lost Lamb." I was sure they'd choose the semi-cheezy power ballad goodness of the Travelling Song. I was pleasantly surprised. It's going to be an effort though. We only get 2 hours in the studio this Sunday. We also have an audition for a battle of the bands at Calvin for which we may be chosen, which will score us a free recording of ourselves whether we win or not. Let's just hope we're chosen.

And last, we have a pretty important gig on Saturday. we're playing our biggest set ever. We get to (have to?) play for an hour and a half. Unfortunately, to fill that much time, we have to throw in a few weak songs, but I think it will be ok. Wish us luck!

You'll do fine, HMT.

Can't wait to hear the results of all these great opportunities. Nothing but more good news, I'm sure...

We have another show at the Warehouse in Belding MI on Saturday the 20th. All ages. We made it into the Battle of The Bands too, so we'll likely have have some music for you all to listen to soon.

Yay.

Congrats HMT!

I may be visiting a friend of mine who lives in Kalamazoo sometime soon (he's got a band called Grotto North - I'm not sure how far you guys range up and down the coast); I'll have to see if I can coincide the visit with a show of yours.

More rad news:

We recorded our song for the compilation CD (titled "Dialogue." Stupid, I know) Anyway, we got to the studio at 7:30 for our 8 to 10 o clock session time. Take note, WE ARRIVED EARLY. Do you know of any rock bands who show up early?

No one was there. The engineer, Peter, showed up at ten to eight. Hence, by the time we unloaded and had everything set up, it was already 8:15. Slightly aggravating, but still making good time. Then, the snare drum gave us trouble. It had this big rattling hum noise thing that showed up horribly on the recording. So we operated on the drum for about ten minutes getting nowhere, and eventually just slapped a big piece of tape across the chain and it was fine.
8:30. Not good.

We start checking levels on the drums. It takes awhile. 8:45. Getting pissed off.
Finally, Peter told us to start playing our instruments. Those levels took about 2 minutes. He asked if he could take a smoke break, which he strangely never took, though we said ok. Weird. Anyway, we were very well rehearsed and blew through our song in one take. The whole thing. Drums, guitar and bass. Pretty sweet huh?
8:55

Peter sets up the vocal mic, and Scott gets right into the song. He did about 4 takes, and we kept the 4th. Then he did his harmony parts. Beautiful.
9:15, time to start doing a rough mix. Plenty of time. Feelin' good. We told Peter what we wanted and he did it. The result is a very, very nice sounding song. It was so gorgeous, even without the drums mixed. We added some reverb here and there, did some panning on the guitar and doubled my part. It's going to sound amazing. The disc comes out May 8th, so I'll be sure to upload our cut for you all to hear as soon as I get it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Peter wasn't. He was really impressed that we knew our stuff and got it all done. That was great. I can't wait to do it again.

The best part?

Free.

Metal on.

First studio experience!

Wow! That was so badass!! I had no idea we were that good as an ensemble. We usually use lyrics to transition and whatnot, but we cut it with minimal mistakes WITHOUT vox. Killer!

And then, I couldn't even hear myself very well in terms of tempo and pitch on the vox when we got around to them. I was floored when I got into the "control room." Oh, we're good!!!

Mmmm... hear that? *nod* Sacrament comin' closer and closer to epidemic RattleHed syndrome. Warning: Your town may already be under quarantine. wink

Well, the Warehouse show went great, but I collapsed after the last song. Apparently it was a whole combination of things that caused my blood pressure to rise slowly and drop FAST. I'm ok. We actually got to sign autographs. That was amazing. A great show. We rocked the place hard.

Get this new song up ASAP!

I cannot wait to hear it, all.

Battle of the bands takes place tonight at 8pm in the Calvin College Fine Arts Center. If anyone in town cares to come make noise for us, it would be cool...

*shrug* if anyone even reads this, wish us luck. We could end up with some studio time if we win it.
