Kind of a big show tonight

We're playing at the Intersection here in GR, which is kind of a big deal, kind of not. Lots of big name acts play here, so it's pretty visible, and we're giving out some free demo CD's for the first time tonight, so...I hope it all goes well. I'll update you all with pics and a review of the show and whatnot. Wish us some damn luck, ok?

Well, the show didn't go so well at all. First off, we've played there once before and we had troubles with the staff then, and this time was no different. The sound guy is one of the most obnoxious, anal, condescending DICKS I've ever met. Only the equipment tech is nice. Anyway, I dfound out the details of this show the day before the show, so things were already pissing me off. It was ok though, I could deal with it.
Then when we get to the show at 7:20 (we were instructed to arrive at 7:30 for soundcheck) Mr. Soundman says we should all load our gear into the backstage hallway (below) while he goes somewhere to do something else completely. On the floor of this hallway is a flood of sstagnant water, urine, and cigarette butts. This place knows nothing, cares nothing, does nothing for or about the bands that they book. Don't like 'em.

So we piled up our stuff around the flooded area as best we could and waited. In my correspondence with the club, we had been told to plan on a 40 minute set. I'm sorry, the correct Final Jeopardy answer is 25 minutes! So we cut our set down to four songs. The sound was bad. I asked for more in the monitors and he said "more of what?" I said, "More of everything. How about turning them on?"
He laughed. Derisively.
We did get a little bit more in the monitors though. Yet, we could hear nothing.

Then (though not his fault, still irksome) JP broke a string on his guitar and then had to use mine. No big deal, roll with the punches. It felt like a big disaster. None of us could hear anything, so it was very hard to stay in time to the music.

On top of that, the crowd was so small...eh, nevermind. There were about 20 people in the place TOTAL. This is a bar/music club that usually brings in about 300-400 people. I believe it has about 700 capacity.
20.

The only good thing about the night was that some of the 20 people who were there really wanted our demo, so we gave out I think 5 of them. Not much, but there weren't enough people there to make it really matter anyway. We also met some guy who *supposedly* helps band get shows, because he knows a lot of clubs and bands. So I gave him my number. If it works out, that will be worth it. We still gave it our best though, we always do. <img src="http://home.attbi.com/~kirkrs/JP2.jpg" alt="" />

So anyway, that wasn't a great show at all, but we have another on the 13th that promises to be better. Here's hoping.
