Question for Micah

I tried to email you, but Outlook sent it back with saying this "xxxxxxx_does_not_like_recipient./Remote_host_said:_551_not_our_customer/Giving_up_on_xxxxxxxx"
so I put it in here :

"Hey Micah,

I guess you already know that I really like your music, so I´ll skip the praises to ask you something.
Please tell me, how do you record your voice ? With a standard mic on your pc ? I´m really interested
in recording some stuff by myself, so I just wanna know.
The music - how much of it is played by yourself and how much is sampled stuff ? Do you create the samples
with some music programm or did you find it on the net? What about Cubase, can you recommend it ?
Ah, just tell me how you make your wonderful songs wink
greetings,

Chris (myers)"

If you don´t want to make it public you can also send me a pm or an email.

Thanks

Thanks to Comcast Broadband, my internet is screwed all the way up right now, so I can't get a single email. I've been on the phone complaining with them every single day this week, and I'm a hair away from going for Earthlink DSL.

ANYWAY...to answer your question:

I use just a basic cheap condenser mic right into my SoundBlaster Live! card to record vocals. To record my music, I use a combination of Cakewalk Sonar 2 and Sonic Foundry Acid 4.0. The stuff that uses more loops I use Acid for. The "rock"-ier stuff with more live instrumentation I use SOnar for.

As for samples...I use both stock samples and sample myself playing. It's all mixed in depending on the vibe I'm going for. But when I sample myself, I try to use effects/plug-ins to add some character to make it sound as if it came from another record...maybe even another era.

I've used Cubase before, but ultimately it just wasn't my cup of tea. Once you get really familiar with it, it's great, but when I tried it, it was still finicky with Windows and SoundBlaster drivers, so I made the switch. It's a good program, tho.

Hope that answers your questions.

Your answers help me pretty much, especially because I also Do have a soundblaster live! in my system.

If I´m ever in Atlanta I´ll invite you for a drink or two.

Feel embraced, thanks

Don't want to completely derail your conversation, but you really should checkout Speedfactory.com. They really do a great job.

I'm more than a few hairs away now. My ordeal was apparently due to the conversion from AT&T Broadband to Comcast, who acquired them a year ago.

All straight for now with a new Comcast.net email address.

This is borderline shill, but I can help you get connected with Bellsouth DSL if you're looking to change providers.
