DRIFT OF PIGS, the new tune from Darker

This one looks to be the leadoff track for album numero dos, THE DEMON-HAUNTED WORLD.

Here's Drift of Pigs, Sounder of Swine.

You could have said it a thousand times and just one more
You could have lied a thousand lies and none before
You could have said what you would say if you could
You might have known what the blood was for, it’s just as good.

Like-minded fools who’ve nothing to say
Empty vessels down by our way
So tired of the sound of the machine
They’ll beat until you can get clean

Yeah I said it’s all about to come to an end
I promise that I won’t let you down again
Let’s roast the last of them and have some wine
Drift of Pigs Sounder of Swine

Lip service that’s paid in full
Too many hands too many pockets
Back and forth yet it all remains the same

Turned into popular culture
We can’t have it hurt too much
It just doesn’t fit the format of the news

Thanks, UGB.

I record everything in a small room in my apartment, actually.

I'm a little unclear, tho. Are you saying that most MP3s sound lofi or most of MY MP3s sound lofi?

By the nature of what kind of song this is, it's going to be a little more abrasive than my usual stuff, but I still think it's fairly well-recorded.

Oh No, I think its recorded fine. I was commenting on the slightly grainy quality of some of the Mp3s. It sort of gives it a Brian Eno/Skinny Puppy vibe; LoFi electronica. I didn't mean to sound like I was insulting the quality of your work, I prefer that sound as apposed to high quality recordings. Now days I add a little bit of air to my sequencer loops so they don't sound so programed.

BTW, are the drums you used organic or are they .wav loops?
All mu drums are sampled, and I just cut and paste as I see fit.

It's okay. I don't take anything said about my material too personally. Even if someone said it was a bad recording of a crap song, at least they listened.

That's all you can really ask for. As long as I enjoy making the music, the other stuff isn't that major.

Nice track. Can't say I follow the lyrics, but the vocal range is impressive. From what I've heard, this is shaping up to be a lot different from the first record.

When can we expect the new album?

Thanks, Forklift.

This is shaping up to be very different, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Not that every album will be unlike its predecessor, but I only have one record out so far and so many genres I want to explore.

I never seem to learn my lesson about stating release dates only to see them broken. Let's just say I WANT to have the record done by the end of this month.

We'll see.

I've been taking my time, mulling over tracks from the various "official" CHUD bands, and your stuff is easily my favourite, Micah. Probably because it gels with my own tastes, but I'm a sucker for anything that combines the best of different genres. Drift Of Pigs reminded me a lot of early Soundgarden, and I had to check the track listing to confirm it was still the same guy who did the beautiful ambient stuff as well. Music is an area where my skills hover somewhere just above zero, so I'm in awe of people who have that ability.

Have you ever heard a rapper from the UK called Buzz B? I think you'd like him - he's pretty unique, and has a similar eclectic range to yourself. A bit like Justin Warfield's first album, but more summery and mellow.

First off, thanks for the love, Dan. I appreciate you not only taking the time to listen, but to really give my stuff some dedicated attention.

I haven't heard this Buzz B guy, but I will definitely look him up on your recommendation. I am familiar with Justin Warfield, but I wasn't into his rap/rock experimentation....only his first record appealed to me.

Anyway...the genre-crossing. It's just natural to me. It's kind of a cliche these days to say that you listen to "everything," but I pretty much do. And it just comes out in my songwriting, I guess. Anything I don't cover with my music, I get out when I play with Package. So it's lots of fun touching down on all of those bases.

Thanks for the support, and hopefully you'll enjoy the other new stuff not far away from completion.

I think you'll be lucky to find anything on Buzz B. He only had one album, back in the early nineties, and I don't know if it got released in the States. He's one of those artists where the gulf between his talent and his fame baffle me - it's easily one of the best rap albums I've ever heard. It's like he took rap music, but didn't bother to read the rules as to what you're supposed to do with it.

If you want me to send you a tape, e-mail me your address. My evangelism for this album knows no bounds!

Thanks for the offer, Dan. I may hunt this down, tho, so no need to send a tape.

Thanks again for caring enough to listen, too. I'll keep posting my stuff here as long as somebody cares.

Hey this is great!
I like the beat (duh) and the guitar (synth?) is really kind of...I don't know; I like it. It's kind of grinding on the 'ol ears and pleasing a the same time.

Whoa.

It stopped. Effective. But cruel, cruel, cruel.
You can't just cut of a great beat like that AND a cool hook AND a powerful vocal all at once!
It's fiendish.

Loved it.

Thanks a thousand times, man. For the comments in the other thread, too.

There's no synths on that song. I just like playing around with guitar effects and tones, and that one's a ring modulator with some harmonics underneath. It's grinding, but yet catchy in a weird sort of way.

This is good stuff, Micah. A nice change of pace for you, including the lyrics.

And little Riley danced to it, so I's say it works.

By the way, when can we expect another complete DARKER album?? You stay on me about the "Marietta" & "Blue Milk" stuff I'll keep bugging you about this. wink

Like I said above, Carl, every time I set a "release date," something comes up and I end up breaking it.

Let's just say that all 10 songs for the second Darker record are in various stages of completion, but they all exist and all are all written for the most part. I just have parts to do here and there, including lyrics and vocals.

It takes awhile, you know. I'm responsible for every iota of sound you hear on a Darker record. And yet I'm still on pace with Package and The Lucky Nightsticks, who both have the benefit of having several members, all of whom are multi-instrumentalists.

Suffice it to say...I want the album to be done SOON, but we'll have to see.

I've finally set a night aside to fight my 56K and attack this forum.

And you're killing me Micah... This is good stuff. I wish I were better able to provide constructive criticism to help you get better, but all I've got is a simple "I'd like more please".

Keep it up!

Wow. Great song, although the ending threw me a bit. I was really digging it and then it drops right out. Very cool. Can't wait for the album to be done.

Thanks for the support guys.

The albums's chugging along. But probably at least a good month from release.

My day job is beginning to really eat up a lot of time because we're in a crunch period, plus I have a CHUDstory due real soon, DVD reviews, Package stuff, and several other committments in the next couple of weeks.

Nonetheless, I have two songs nearly ready for the world to hear. We'll see how this weekend goes.

I just purchased Darker, Mikah. Thanks for your patience though you probably gave up on me. I'm sorry I took so long, but I am a woman of my word. wink

Nickster, sent you a present via PayPal as well.

Keep on doin' what ya do, guys!

Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy the hell out of it, and I promise I'll be getting up my ass and finishing album #2 real soon.

Good! I'm glad someone is getting up in there. wink

Actually I was aiming for The Demon - Haunted World, but found that it wasn't completed yet. You never said March 2, 2004!! It's a devious plan, I tell ya.

Me likey!

(Sorry I threw your thread off, Mic(k)ah. I was aiming to purchase cd #2, so I'll just continue my comments on cd #1 here, if I may.)

Me likey!

Dreamstations was the best, closely followed by Color Information and Killers as my other favorites. I also like Your Deliverance Will Come and Apples, Kisses, and other Blessings.

Very unique sound. I like unique. Dreamstations had a Willie Nelson meets Mexico sort of vibe to it that was refreshing. In fact, I had to restart the song twice because the opening lyrics sounded just like him!

Not a bad song among the bunch. Nice work!
