FORWARD MOTION, the new Darker track

This is probably the last song I'll post from my upcoming second record, The Demon-Haunted World. I'm close to completing it and I want to save 4 tracks for those who buy the record. The rest of it is readily available on my page along with this new tune.

Something of a in-and-out 3-minute pop song.

Forward Motion is the first song available for download at the top of the page. Enjoy.

The not so good...

It's different; I'll give you that. I'm mixed right now, what I've come to expect from Darker is well, dark music. This definitely fits under the 'pop' category, as you said before. Me, I'm more of a 11:11, Beautiful Pictures, Glory & Skin Evolution type of guy. While I respect the angle you are going for with this track; I find that the styles from the aforementioned songs coming through, and thus creating a hybrid of some getting used to. I'll give it a couple more listens before I pass judgement; the first time is always rough.

The Good.

Dude, production quality on the vocals and bass is superb! I love how even the bass sounds, and how it never seems to clip or dip too low/high. Good job brother! What where you using? ProTools? Soundforge?

The vocals came through great, I'm not sure if it’s just from a steady even manner of singing, or post production. Either way, they came through perfectly clear; every nuance of annunciation was audible.

Speaking of vocals, I noticed quite the range in your voice during that song. That’s what I like, guys that CAN sing and willing to flaunt it. I've always been a fan of highs and lows, and if you can pull it off then, in the words of my countrymen, Give'r!

Summary:
Has alot of potential, but needs to genre definition due to its pop aspects. 6/10

Well, indeed this is probably among the "happiest" or "poppiest" track I've ever written. Major keys and such. But I figure...it's just like The Cure: You can't be gloom and doom all of the time. For all of their melancholy and mascara, they have "sunny" classics like "Friday, I'm in Love" or "Just Like Heaven." And I wanted something like that too. If some people aren't into it, that's cool because there's more than enough minor-key stuff on both of my records to appeal to that style.

As for the production, no big secrets there. I just use Cakewalk recording software and plug into a lowly Soundblaster Live card. I do spend a lot of time on mixing, compression, and mastering, hence the clarity of the recording.

I completely agree with you; you gotta spice up the album a bit, it's got to keep your attention.

Heres my situation Mikah; I know how much artists love critcism, but I hate judging anothers art. An artist thrives on what others think of their manifestations, but what another thinks is irrelivant to the integrity of the art. What I'm trying to say is just because I like some of your other tracks better does not negate the respect for the latter. No matter how much I like or dislike a song, unless I wrote it, its not mine to judge.

On the other hand, an artists generally grades his own material on the opinions of others. Kind of a catch 22, I suppose.

On a less serious note, don't you think comparing yourself to the like of The Cure was a little righteous? Just playing man, you made a good point there. Let Forward Motion be your Friday I'm in Love, and let that song carry you top 40 stardom!

Any other takers?

I like the song. Solid vocals and music. I had a good vibe the whole time listening to it. The song will feel a tad out of place in a album with mostly dark music. Neverless, I liked this track.

It's meant for you to come to THIS page and then to use the link at the top to get it (and leave comments here afterwards), but screw it...I'll simply change my sig link to go directly to that page.

The link does work, BTW.
