Now, we all know that HMT and I are in a metal band. What you may not have realized is just how DAMN GOOD WE ARE!!!
Forgive the conceit, but I've just got to share the extreme excellence I just helped cause. Saturday night. The venue is crawling (compared to our normal bar shows). There's music going on, but it's relatively tame and quiet. The Battle of the Bands has begun. The crowd is silently watching and respecting the music and even enjoying it, if not very actively.
...and then there was Sacrament!
Before tonight, I've had a serious problem finding confidence in my musical ability. I get up there and play and sing fairly dynamically, but I'm so afraid of screwing up that the energy and tightness of the band suffer. I want to be the best. But without confidence...
So, we get up on stage and guess what. MY FEAR IS ENTIRELY GONE! I think Sacrament has never performed as powerfully, as tight, and with as much audience interaction as tonight. When we started the beat to our openner, the whole place was alive with heads a-flailing and cheers feeding the music. HMT accidentally pulled the plug from his amp and dropped out, and then he started back in so perfectly it sounded practiced. We were all on and magnificent no matter what shit tried to stop us.
By the closing song, people were bouncing like mad rabbits in mating season and pushing up against the stage. We smacked the last chord and all ran up to give hi-fives and hand shakes to all of our adoring fans. I can't remember the last time I've felt this good. Maybe never before.
This is completely mad. I wouldn't give it up for anything. We definitely got the house vote. Nothing is certain until Monday, but at this point I don't even care about winning. That was intense!!
