Update:
Well, Pastor Cole said on O'Reilly last night that the child will receive her certificate for completion of the grade.

I talked to others in my family -not those who work for this church though- and we are in total agreement regarding this: Capitol Christian Center is behaving in this instance a bit less than Christ-like. Actually, the terminology was a bit more harsh.

This church/school is a big-assed Crystal Catherdral wannabe. I feel the Spirit of God is rather non-existent there.

You know, Jesus hung out with people such as Silvas. Ironic, isn't it?

I agree with you. The school shouldn't have done this.

There's a paragraph in the story where mom mentions that part of the reason she was dancing was to afford the school's tuition. Apart from the truthfulness of that, honestly, it would make a lot of folks (myself included) uncomfortable to hear it-- it would make the school feel a bit complicit, like it forced her Jean Valjean-style to steal the bread to feed her family. I'm guessing, though, that if they called her bluff and offered to waive her kid's tuition so that she wouldn't have to take that job, it wouldn't really be that simple.

And then to go on O'Reilly? That can't be the kind of publicity any church school would want, unless they are publicity exhibitionists. So, who's selling themself out, eh? It's a stupid black eye. Of course they'll retreat now. It's just a pity they didn't think so clearly the first time.

I think Will's wrong when he predicts instant lawsuit. The school can pretty much do what they want here.

Crystal cathedral? What do you mean?

Crystal Cathedral is Dr. Robert Schuller's incredible edifice/church in Garden Grove, California. You might have seen it on TV.

As far as lawsuits go, I honestly don't see it happening here for one reason: There is a clause in the school contract that no court could dismiss.

And since Cole said he'd give the child the certificate then it's simply a matter of damage control on the church's part and finding another school for the child on the mother's part.

The Church handled this so badly though...

Just so you know...she is about to pose in Playboy: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2002/05/30/MN194790.DTL

I say milk those 15 minutes baby!

That's not all she's got worth milking. Kinda weird that her career path is so...seedy? Surely the lady has more to offer the world than a glimpse of her tits.

Then again, at $400/month for kindergarten, I'd probably start selling my body too, either piece by piece or all at once. Radio isn't all that lucrative.

Oh well. Whatever. 14 minutes and counting...
