Amature Game Music Videos

Thread Starter
I've seen Game Music Video sites cropping around for quite some time now. There are a few gems out there like an FF medley of clips to Bon Jovi's "Always", but to be quite honest most of these videos suck. One of the worst ones I've seen was someone putting Final Fantasy X clips to Avril Lavine's "Skaterboy". Somehow I don't think I have ever seen a skaterboy in FFX. Anyway seeing how most of the videos I was downloading were trash, I thought to myself, "I could do better." So I took upon myself, and made a few here and there, and I wanted to know what you guys think of them? Or suggestions for good Game Music Videos to download off of other sites?

The files is rather big, at 79 Megs, but blame M$ for their crappy .WMV you must make with Windows Movie Maker. The video contains clips from Shenmue 2, Lunar Silver Star Story, Final Fantasy Anthologies, FF8,FF9, and FFX. Also contains spoliers from FF9(The Ending).

Well Ryo, it was a valiant first-effort, but you have a lot to learn about making music videos.

For starters, you picked one of the most cliched songs ever. I mean, you can play that song with just about anything. Next time, go for something more original and/or something that has a little life to it.

Second, choose a theme for the video. Music has a voice and you have to choose your games and what images you want to use from those games carefully. You have to go beyond just matching the mood to the music.

Third, you have to work on your transistions. For starters, try not to use the transistions the editing program provides. Just because you can use a page-turn wipe, doesn't mean that you should. Also, don't be afraid to chop up a clip. You're editing a music video, so just don't take chunks and then set them to music. Set your own pace and make the music work for you.

I think you have what it takes to do a good music videos. You had some good reasons for transistions (like the head turning from Shenmue to FF9) and you know what clips you want (though in the future, try and get them unmarked with logos and whatnot, if at all possible).

For good examples of videogame music videos done right, try and find Final Fantasy set to Storm (Techno Vivaldi) or FF set to Crash and Burn. Both of those are excellent. If you can't find them online (try animemusicvideos.org) then IM me and I'll send them to you myself.

After downloading this (took forever it seemed) I have one opinion: I loved it. I think Matt may be onto a few things, but I'll let him voice them, and I'll save my comments.
I thought it was a good video and at the chance of sounding like a hopeless otaku, Rinoa Hartly is a babe...
The only things I've played where the Final Fantasies and Shenmune. The other references I didn't get, so I was at a bit of a lose when it came to the rest.

All in all I like it. I hope to see more out of you!
