Star Wars Galaxies

Had a chance to play some of this. All I can say is fucking amazing. I'm not going to let loose on any of the gritty details but let me just say that you know a game is good when you can jump inbetween two people that are dueling it out with shooters online and start doing the robot... that's right... THE ROBOT. A very detailed rendition of it I might add.

I almost pissed myself I laughed so hard.
Though some might disagree, the ability to do the robot does not a good game make.

I'm glad there's some good words for this coming out. There's been way too many negative rumors lately. Hopefully, it launches smoothly and is as addictive as they promise.
I've been waiting for this game since UO was in beta. I hope that between SWG and Planetside, I can get my MMO fix since UO went to hell with the last expansion.
I beta tested UO way back when (and it really shouldn't have been in beta at the time) but made a conscious decision that I would not sign my life away to any of these games until the Star Wars one came out. Heck, I used to play Meridian 59 and spent tons of time on it and that game was horrible.

Your the only one that disagrees! wink

Yeah I am like above poster I have bought all the MMORPG since EQ (I was bad on EQ had 3 lvl 50's and played so much I had to go to doctor cause I was dehydrated for Cig's and Soda and this was all before Kunark) but wont waste my REAL time with them until SWG comes out then its on.
ANyone have specs anywhere of what its gonna take to run this on your computer fairly smoothly....
I've never played a MMORPG (I've been MUSHing* for 13 years). I much prefer roleplay over rollplay...that is, character interaction over hack & slash. But many of my co-workers have, and, being an anthropologist by nature, I know almost as much about them as a regular player, after studying these techies in the mist.
I applied for the beta for this, though. When you have a field path that includes "Hairdresser," it catches my interested.
I'm wondering though...how long before someone builds a bar, hires dancers, then starts charging extra to go in that room in the back....

*MUSH: It's a text-based game, like a MUD, but the object isn't to advance your character by going out and beating on things**, but rather by roleplaying scenes with other characters.

** Unless that's what your character does, of course.

I'm an artist so I'm obviously looking forward to the tattoo job. I can't wait to set up shop in Star Wars Galaxies and offer my own personal artwork designs to online customers to implement onto their character bodies. How fucking weird would that be?
sounds like a nifty feature without the embarassment 20-40 years down the line.

"Gramma, what does bitchsucks mean?"
And something that I've yet to see at all in Beta.
It does seem a bit too ambitious, everything they want to do with this game. But if they have all that cool stuff, I might just come out and ACTUALLY PAY 10 BUCKS A MONTH!!
13 bucks
Geez.
And I want to be a Stormtrooper. Theres no reason the developers cant institute this.

Okay, fine, you can be a stormtrooper. Now you get to spend all your online game time following orders. What, you think a stormtrooper can just go off and do whatever they want?
It'd be great for people who like tactical type games. Of course you'd be allowed to take leave every once in a while. I think it'd be cool. Free travel to other planets!

Ah geez... My friend who's beta testing is now officially allowed to give ONE person a copy of his beta to join up in the testing. But I have a Mac! Argh...

At least I will possibly not have to pay 800 bucks for a new PC in order to play Galaxies when it comes out. If you've heard anything about the new console "The Phantom" that's supposed to be shown at this months E3, it allegedly will be a cheap porting system for PC games. So hopefully I can just buy one of those things when Galaxies is released and get on with it that way.
Isn't Galaxies coming out for PS2 also? I think it is.

Yeah, but the PC players and the PS2 players won't be able to interact. (I think I'm saying this right.)
On theForce.net they have a story about how the links for the PS2 and XBox versions of SWG are now gone, leading to some speculation that the ports have been scrapped.
Rats. I still think this game might be pretty cool though. I want the space expansion pack, though I wonder how it would work- joystick or other means of control. My dream ship has always been a Lambda class shuttle modded to have more potent laser cannons and a rear mine launcher.
Developers have said all you'll need are your mouse and the arrow keys to pilot.
Oh that sounds great. If anyones ever played the game Freelancer, they'll know how easy it is to pilot a vessel with the ol' mouse and keyboard.
yeah I heard that the PS2 and X-Box versions have simply been delayed until further notice....which basically means they are mostl likely cancelled.....
They're probably worried about getting the PC version up and running before worrying about getting it onto a console.

Either way, if the console versions are still coming out, they'll still be released 6 months up to a year after the pc version comes out. That's why I think "The Phantom" can prove to be a useful means to play the game without a true pc.
Just got in beta last week. Much, much love...and I've never really gotten into any MMORPG before.
I will personally avoid this game, but I do look forward to hearing about others' experiences.

I am firmly in this camp as well.
Like someone chow mentioned, I've been waiting and watching for one game to give the next 3 years of my life to. I wanted Galaxies to be that game and have waited almost 2 years without a virtual life because I expect this to be great. Hopefully, it will be.

god I want to shoot myself.
I've been dying to play this game for years now, but lately I've come to the conclusion that there's NO WAY it can offer the immersiveness that they're promising.

A lot of fans are expecting this to be a computer game version of their PnP RPG games, but I suspect the overwhelming majority of people are going to be communication and socializing "out of character".

I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, but as far as immersiveness goes, KOTOR looks like the frontrunner.
We have a release date, folks. June 26th.

<a href="http://www.lucasarts.com/products/galaxies/press5.htm" target="_blank">Press Release</a>

and...

<a href="http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/features/faq_pages/faq_1.jsp#104" target="_blank">System Requirements</a>

There are pricing plans listed in that press release. Check it out.
The 26th? Damn, thats soon.

$50 plus $15 a month? Damn, I think I'll pass for now. Why must these online games be so damn expensive?
15? Yeah, sorry Sony. No fucking way.

Just to clarify:

Month-to-month - $14.99; three months - $14.00 per month; six months - $13.00 per month; and 12 months - $12.00 per month. By subscribing to any of the latter three plans, players can expect savings of up to 20 percent over the month-to-month rate.

I'm interested in the game, but I won't even think about picking it up until the vehicles/space flight addon is available.
I'm in the beta, and I'm considering a wait before I buy in. For me, the game is definitely fun right now. I always enjoy playing, and even the repetitive stuff you have to do to advance in some cases isn't bad to me, since there's usually enough variety to keep you experimenting. I may wait to let things get ironed out a bit (and for me to get some mo' money), though.

But yeah, it should be way cooler once the Space Expansion happens, though that won't be for a few months, at least. We're not really sure when the player land vehicles will be added at this point. Maybe with the SE, I guess.
If I was in beta I would say being a Chef is Awesome and serving people jawa beer all the while people are grooving to player made SW tunes is just a straight kick in the pants of coolness.

If I was in beta I would say hearing the blaster for the 500th time sucks

If I was in beta I would say that the char creation process rules.

If I ws in beta I would say Theed alone is more fleshed out then every city in DAOC put together, and Padme's Palace is god damn unbelivable when matched up next to the film.

If I was in beta I would say the fact you can totally create any charecter to your liking then undo that at will is just great.

If I was in beta I would try to create a Smuggler then sit in the back of Mos Espa cantina and sell drugs (Buffs) to players.

If I was in beta I would have an Upgraded 3P0 unit from some engineer.

If I was in beta I would have a House Designer build me a nice pad and then go plop it down..

If If If !!!
wink

""Gramma, what does bitchsucks mean?"

God, its good to coin a word.
So wait, there's no way to play the Beta now, or should I still submit the survey?

Fuck!
Unless you can find someone with an extra buddy key in the next week, I would say you're out of luck. Sorry.
Why would you want to play beta when it comes out in a week anyway? All people playing beta will have their information erased as well.
Yeah, but i'm not sure if i'm gonna buy it or not, I wanted to take it for a test-drive.

I probably WILL end up buying it, though...
So even with the monthly fee, will this be worth buying?
In my opinion, YES. The only hesitation in my mind at all is due to the fact that I don't have much money right now, and I need to be focusing on other things.

I really love the game, though.
NDA is lifted!
I've already paid for my collector's edition, and have taken next Thursday and Friday off.

Goddamn, I feel like such a geek.
Though it's been in beta for months now, the onslaught of thousands of players signing up on the first day may create havok. I have yet to see a smooth launch for any MMORPG, even the veteran ones. There's just too much that can go wrong. Thursday and Friday could be spent just trouble shooting.
I fully anticipate there being issues. The servers have been pretty stable lately, but in beta everytime they released a patch to fix certain issues, they'd break others, and the servers would yo-yo up and down.

I'm also a bit worried about the population cap of 3500 coupled with the inability to migrate your character. People on popular servers can be screwed during peak usage hours.

The game itself, though, is too cool not to risk it.
<a href="http://swvault.ign.com/articles/425/425301p1.html" target="_blank">You must watch this video.</a>

This is a bunch of in-game footage that some gal put to music, and it's really, really impressive. If this were a TV commercial for SWG, I think it would be a guaranteed sales boost.

I couldn't get the grin off my face the whole time.

DAoC released with no login issues or anything like that.

E&B released with no login issues or anything like that.

All was good.

Then SBane hit and that whole trend went to shit quick!

Hopefully SOE knows WTF there doing or you guys taking days off are gonna feel like me during AO's launch. MAD AS FUCK!

My suggestion would be get a Station Name NOW cause if anything is gonna get bogged it's WEBSITE registration.
