Gamer's Perspective

2003. The year of tactical combat. Enter Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain, the fourth installment in the long-running series that launched during the infant stages of the PSone.

The franchise’s popular protagonist, Gabe Logan, returns, but this time around you’ll be running missions for his reformed Agency to become an instrument of world peace. Through 17 massive, totally intense levels, you’ll snipe terrorists in Yemen, take out the Yakuza in Tokyo, and track the scent of the Spetznaz in Irkutsk.

With a cache of over 100 lethal weapons and high-tech gadgets, your international jaunts will hardly be the same ol’ stealthy gameplay of other games. Each operation is dripping with action, tossing players into relentless hand-to-hand combat, brutal knife attacks, full-on firestorms, and moments that require projectile precision. Master the fine art of warfare—or die trying.

Yet, the war on terrorism doesn’t stop in your living room. Linking up with the rest of the world is easy when you log online, teaming up with three other commandos via the Network Adapter. Plus, with a compatible, voice-recognizing headset (sold separately), you’ll be able to execute much more dynamic battle plans than you ever could using those cumbersome, cursor-driven keyboards.

This makes me wish that I hadn't gotten rid of my PS2. I really loved Syphon Filter 1, it was one of my favorites on the PS1. Truly underrated game. Syphon 2 was terrible though, hopefully this one will be closer to the first one.

I've always liked that Syphon Filter was more action than stealth. Stealth is fun sure, but I much prefer sniping far off characters and then running in guns blazing.

Cool! There was actually some Syphon Filter discussion going on at the coffee meeting on Saturday... with Sweeney and I holding down the 'pro' side of things.

I look forward to trying out this new version (though I've yet to finish.. uh... any of the PSX games)

Exactly. The original had some incredible gunfights, to me it was like playing an action movie. I think I played the museum level multiple times, just to replay the shootouts.

Plus, you were decked out in that swank tux. Bonus!

Looks great and all, but not playing as Gabe Logan is bullshit.. What's up with that? I love Syphon Filter 1 and 2 for Playstation (Yes, I liked SF2).. And Gabe is such an underrated character.. No fucking fair!
