Legacy Of Kain: Defiance

This game will be shown at E3. Eidoes decided to put the two series (Blood Omen and Soul Reaver) back into one big game. You get to play as Kain AND Raziel. Kain has the soul reaver sword, while Raziel has his wraith blade version of the same weapon. The game takes place immediately after Soul Reaver 2, and then spends most of the time during the Blood Omen era. The fighting system has been substantially improved with combos and air juggles, etc., and both characters have telekinetic powers, Kain moreso than Raziel.

The game is scheduled to be released on PS2 and X-Box in November.

Not...going...to...cry.

Seriously, this is fuckin' fantastic news, I cannot wait for another 'Soul Reaver' game ('Legacy of Kain', whatever), and the fact that they put them back into on "big" game is just awesome.

Thanks for making my day!

Now let's see how many times this gets delayed from Eidos.
I believe their company policy is to delay all games to whenever pigs start flyin', but not tell anyone about it until the last minute.

If it's out by early next year I'll be happy. Before that I really wouldn't expect anything from them, but either way it'll be worth the wait.

Whenever it comes out, I'm sure the game will be great. The screenshots in those scans were awesome, and I'm excited by the possibilities opened from having Kain and Raziel both playable (especially since it's the first time we'll be able to play as the more evolved Kain of the Soul Reaver era).

What's most exciting, though, is that the great storyline isn't ending anytime soon. It frustrates me when the story is abandoned in the sequel to a game, but the Legacy of Kain series is very tightly plotted and fascinating to see play out. The end of Soul Reaver 2 was a jaw-dropper, and it looks like they used that scene to set up the next game (very clever way to get Kain a Reaver to fight with). The Defiance title also seems to allude to both Raziel defying his destiny and Kain defying the timeline by influencing him. I think things will start to get very strange in this game.

This is one of the games I'm most excited about, and I look forward to anything else they release about it in the next couple weeks.

Some interesting storyline details I found in the article. I guess these could be considered spoliers, so here's your warning:

At the end of SR2, and the beginning of LOK, Raziel is trapped in the spectral realm, and continued exposure to this realm has begun to warp his mind, rendering him slightly demented. Also, apparently the Elder God has refused to help Raziel, so I guess we know who one of the "dark forces" are.

The only thing I'm hoping for is that Michael Bell (Raziel), Simon Templeman (Kain), Tony Jay (Elder God/Mortanius), Richard Doyle (Moebius), and Rene Auberjonois (Janos) keep doing the voiceover work.
