Prized Gaming Possessions

What do you have in your gaming collection that makes your heart ache with nostalgia?

For me, it's-

Original boxes on display of:

Fallout
Fallout 2
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate II
Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter

I think Heart of Winter might have been the last BIG PC game box I got. That's one of the reasons I get nostalgic...The others are just great gaming memories. They represent, to me, hours of goodness.

There is one console possession of mine that stands out, though...one of the original shipment of Final Fantasy VII. I've never beaten the game despite getting to the very end but got it the first week I was in 8th grade on September 4th, 1997. (Not the 7th, Zanarkand...the 7th was when Sears got it but Kay-Bee got it on the 4th, I distinctly remember that). I remember playing it while I was watching the MTV VMAs. Christ....

Try and share some of yours...that would be cool.

Some of my prized game possessions would have to be a DC version of Shenmue 2 and the Shenmue Orchestra Version CD. Also my Final Fantasy Soundtracks collection including Final Fantasy Symphonic Suite which was originally released in 1989. Also the original game version soundtracks to FF7,8,9,10, and 11. Also Piano Collections to FF8,9, and 10. Orchestra versions of FF6 and 8. Also the Final Fantasy Live Concert CD from the Feb 2002 concert in Tokyo. I also own the Xenosaga Episode 1 soundtrack. I have my NES is very very mint condition, Verbal can attest to that one, my games still work on the first try. I have a memory card that has a file on it from September 12, 1997 for FF7 where Aeris' death scene was, I still have never erased that save point. I have a Neo Geo Pocket Color that is still in the box with the original instruction manuels and such. "I think, I think, that's 'bout it."

This is like a painful thread for me because I had to throw away some of my game boxes a few months ago. It was necessary, plus a cathartic way for me to get rid of my pack-rat mentality.

Here are a few of my prized gaming possessions:

"I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream" mousepad
(I was doing a picture search for it, and I found this)

Thick & Sturdy Boxes of Legend Games: "Mission Critical", "Companions of Xanth", "Death Gate", "Shannara"

Odd Box Shape of "Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers"

That's all I can think right now. My eyes are welling up because I'm missing my abandoned game boxes.

I can imagine how you feel....if I had to get rid of them i'd be upset.

I don't know, some people would just think they are boxes but NOW especially, they represent the golden era of PC gaming. I've gone over it countless times before but it's got to be said- I HATE THE NEW SMALL BOXES.

But when you look at these boxes you can instantly remember things from the games that stood out. I love that, damn it..

I don't keep any of my game boxes. I don't even keep the jewel cases. I've got a big CD binder and all the discs go in there, with the manuals up on the shelf.

I love the way they come in DVD boxes now. The old ones were awful. But then, my house is fuckin small...

I will never understand the big box love...Unless it was one of the few games that utilized the entire box.

Prince Of Persia for the PC - I adore that artwork on the cover.

Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders, which came with this copy of funky fake newspaper Zak works for.

Ico Limited Edition for Europe. a beautiful cardboard slipcase with a fold out which holds the game. very nice

Silent Hill 2 European Edition: with the making of disc and a lovely slipcase packaging.

Baldur's Gate 2 - beautiful packaging, I thought...

My collection consists of horror games mostly. Apart from the standard releases of the various games, I have these prized possessions:

Resident Evil- all the original Japanese versions of the games (aka Biohazard), including the "Dual Shock: Director's Cut" version of Biohazard 2 with the rare scrapped RE1.5 footage. But my real pride and joy are two official Marui Biohazard airsoft guns, kept mint in their boxes (except for when I'm posing and doing Chris Redfield impersonations)

Silent Hill 1 and 2- The Japanese versions of the games. Plan to get the Euro version of SH2.

Clock Tower- All the Japanese versions, including the Super Nintendo version and the portable Wonderswan version. Many different Japanese game guides/manga.

A copy of Evil Dead on the ages old Sinclair Spectrum.

Splatterhouse- the uncut Japanese version for PC Engine.

Also I have some original PCBs of my favorite arcade games, like Robocop and Capcom's The Punisher.

Gotta go with my handheld TOMY made Tron game with vector graphics. It looked like a shrunken arcade cabinet machine. Man the light cyles were awesome with that midi Tron music kicking in the background.

Also...my original Atari 2600 in original box with some 40 game carts ranks up there too.
