I never played either of the other two Clock Tower games, but now that the director of Battle Royale, Kinji Fukasaku, is calling the shots on Clock Tower 3, I'm very interested.

Not sure why, but Clock Tower has always seemed to take a back seat to other survival horror games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. Any thoughts?

Clock Tower 2 sucked big time, but one was rather good. If you like ppoint and click games then check them out. CT1 could get damn freaky at times, especially when you had Scissorman chasing you.

Re Fukasaka, I was real excited when I heard that he was "directing" this game. But it's since become clear that he's only doing the CGI clips, not the actual gameplay itself. Which is no bad thing of course. And Capcom are handling the game, so it should be quality. I'm getting this one no matter what... been salivating over it for about 2 years straight.

Horror has a new name:

Clock Tower rules, the whole game series is vastly underrated IMHO. And Scissorman was the best videogame bad guy EVER. I would go as far as saying he's right up there with Michael and Jason as one of the all time great fictional slashers, regardless of medium (films, games, whatever).

In case you're interested, Scissorman's real origins don't lie in the Clock Tower games. He's actually way older than that. Those Japanese game designers took the idea from an 19th century poem by the German author Heinrich Hoffman (think along the lines of Brothers Grimm). One of those frighten-the-shit-out-of-your-kids fairy tales, which mothers tell their children to stop 'em from sucking their thumbs.

Check out the link... it's a nice creepy little touch that only adds to the mystique of these excellent games.

You should check out the comic DOOM PATROL: Crawling Fron the Wreckage for more scissor-man action. As villains, they get around.

They have a preview on it at ps2.ign, don't know if it's still on the homepage.

Aw, dude, he's even older than that! Primus' "Scissorman" is proof of that. But wait! That was actually a COVER of the song performed by an old group called XTC!

I also think it's in the Bible somewhere...

CT3? Capcom?

Yes.

I picked up Clock Tower 3 a few weeks ago for $30 brand new. I played it once when I first got it but then KOTOR came out and tonight I got around to playing it again. This game is amazing, and sometimes just freaky. I jumped a few times when hammer murderer came out. There was a real touching scene though at the end of that part of the game between a father and daughter that almost bought a tear to my eye. The game graphics are good, but the in-game cut-scene graphics are amazing, along with unfuckwitable animation in most of them especially after the first section of the game when Alissa is in her room and she is fumbling around on the floor with a pillow, the animation and physics for the scene are second to none. Anyone else eventually buy this game?

Is it point and click? I'd deffinetly pick this game up if I found it for $30.. The first one was damn freaky..

It isn't point and click, full 3-D now. Controls similar to that of Silent Hill. The only funky part about the controls is when Alissa's panic meter is all the up, man that bitch can't even walk straight, tripping everywhere. But hey, I guess that happens in every horror movie.

Yeah, this is already out in the UK. I might get it when the price is slashed. Reviews here all call it below average or just about average...some magazines called some of the cut scenes "very sick" (in a bad way), and said that "after a couple of hours of running away, you just wanna turn around and hit someone". I might get it, it's got an interesting premesis, but I don't like the fact you don't get to fight back or use weapons.

This Kinji guy means nothing to me either way, I just wanna get it because it looks like a decent survival horror title.
You do get to fight back in boss battles, which are pretty cool. You fight with a magical bow and arrow that has some nice effects and a nice finishing move.
