Animal Crossing

Screw Kingdom Hearts and it's lame Disney characters, real men play Animal Crossing! wink

Seriously, did anyone else get this for the Cube? So far, I'm digging it. It's sort of like The Sims meets Harvest Moon, without the micromanagement. The real-time aspect is pretty cool as well. Shops are open during the day, people respond differently at different times, etc. It's fun. Best part is having two different towns running. Town A goes in Memory Card A, B in Slot B, and then you get town-to-town interaction. NPC's will move back and forth, based on which is the more desireable town. There are different fruits, fish, and bugs in each town as well, so the town that just has pears will pay top dollar for cherries.

Speaking of, if anypne else has the game and wants to trade items, post what you need. We can put up the codes in this topic. Ireally would like some oranges or another ffruit besides pears. I can send you pears, and some NES games if you like. The Trading Post is now open!

Anyone? I can't believe no one else picked this up. Did I mention there's a pelican that does Monty Python quotes?
If only it was an albatross that did the quotes.

I am seriously considering this purchase. My only prob is that I have a few games sitting around that I need to play more. This game would take too much time. But I want to play it. Ah, my brain hurts.

(Now, I am spittying out MP quotes.)
got it. just started playing it.

actually I hear that further on in the game you can only play in short spurts.. not real time consuming
post #5 of 43
It's probably been said before but I hate The Sims. With that out of the way, I was surprised that I like this game.

Of course the dialogue of the animals may be trying to be a little to hip for my tastes. And the graphics aren't all that exciting but as a game where you can interact with other animals, and friends/family who are playing the game...it's kind of neat.

I tried a rental of this the past week and find myself coming back for more. Doing the most mundane shit in the world, collecting bugs, fishing, digging up holes and planting stuff...mostly it was just to see what I could pillage and sell. The wife likes putting stuff in the house abiding by the rules of Feng Shei.

Haven't been able to get the nes or games yet, but still have a week or so to play. Just may buy this game, it's kind of cool in the Harvest Moon sort of way without being so anal like the Sims.

My only gripe, the damn bastard animals like to show off their letters to other people. Wife wasn't too pleased with my interpretation of the Jay-esque rant (you are the ball lickers...) that I sent to the local priss ursula.
I had fun with this when I rented it. Put a bunch of NWO shirts in the shop, started seeing them on the animals. Taught this goat to say "biatch" instead of "dagnabbit." I did find Pitfall, but no NES. I think they only give them away during the end of month raffles. After that I just raped the system clock to see all the special events in the game. My favorite part was the fishing. So simple, but still addictive.
where the heck do i get a net to help the Mike Tyson looking ghost?
a net? for catching bugs? I bought the net and shovel on my second day. Costed about 400-500 dollars.

on a different note, I had a frickin Animal Crossing dream. I was sitting in the dinning room looking out the window and there were these kids running around doing stuff in my yard. They began digging up my wife's flowers and just as I was about to go out and stop them, one of them shook a tree. A big assed bee (size of a fist)came out and they all ran away. It buzzed around the window knocking it...I was so scared it was going to break on through that I woke up.
That was actually me and my friends in your yard, and the bee was just my flying squirrel, he enjoys dressing up in costumes, go figure.

Alrighty I am resurrecting this thread. Does anyone wanna trade some fruit? I have apples and peaches. No GBA (is it really essential? What am I missing out on?) so no island fruit and no other town as I haven't picked up a new memory card for one yet.

I'm still in the furniture hoarding phase of AC. I cheated bigtime so I could get the entire spooky set (what else would I really need anyway eh?) and am slowly building a fruit furniture set and the kiddie set.

This game rules my life right now. I swear Nintendo was channeling EQ when they made this game.

Anywho, anyone wanna trade with me? Please?
I'm completely lost.
i've been playing the game since it came out. i just started a second character in my town so i can have a second house to store items in. i plan to make it an arcade and store all the nintendo items in.

it's a great game. i'm trying to get all my animals to join the justice league. so far i've gotten various animal wearing superman and batman logos. they don't like the green latern logo for some reason.

anyway i have all the fruit. the animals eventually give you different fruit as you talk to them but if you want to trade let me know.
Jesus...this fucking game.

The Creetch plays it non-stop. For HOURS. I play it, too, I get that it's fun and what not, but there are SO MANY things they could've done better that continue to piss me off.

And it's dawned on me, too. You can play this game forever. You will continue getting money, making new characters, celebrating holidays...it'll never...freaking....STOP!!!
This game sounds insane. I like.
I really need to pick this up. Is it REALLY that addicting?

I always have this problem.
addicting is too weak a word for this game.

Reading this thread again prompted me to load it up and collect more bugs n fish for the museum. It really is weird how you can just fart around doing whatever you want without having to kill anyone.

This reminds me that Harvest Moon shouldn't be too far off for the gba...if not its out right now (have to check ebworld for the dates).

I haven't gotten around to designing any shirts though, nor have I linked up to the gba to get some of the more exotic fruits that damn cat keeps asking for.
I bought this for my brother along witht the e-reader and 2 packs of AC cards. It is addicting.

I made an nWo Shirt that looks pretty cool.

How did you guys make the Superman, Batman, etc. shirts?

there are sites that host textures that you can you as a template. start here: www.animalxing.com/textures.shtml.

there is also a program around, that you can probably find on one of those sites, that will convert an image into a pattern that can be created in the game.

Sweet. Thanks.

This sounds crazy and I am somehow drawn to it!

I think I might very well pick this up once I get my Gamecube.
You will love it or hate it CT, there is no middle ground with Animal Crossing.
I've been reading up the past few minutes and I just want this game. It sounds so crazy and such that I want it. My only reservation is how much time I can devote to this on some kind of regular basis...would 30 minutes a day be fine? Perhaps I play about 3 or 4 times a week at that is it? That and how I can actually expand the world with other people (their own towns and such)? I see a ton of sites for it but I need GBA to actually fully play this right?

Still really looking to pick this up though. Seems like a game even my girlfriend can enjoy.
GBA helps but isn't required. There are some rare objects you can get with it though.
once you get all the fossils for the museum. it won't take more than a ten minutes on days you don't have a lot of time to devote to the game. fossil hunting takes about a half hour. there are days that you will need a bit more time if you want to talk to the animals and try and get special gifts. the snowman building is giving me problems right now.

the gba isn't required at all. i have used it in a while. it's nice for getting the old nes games like baseball and wario's woofs, though.
How the hell do you make the damn snowman?

I have found, on other occasions, snowballs that gradually get bigger. the last time I had one I was on my way to take it to her house, and the I lost the snowball in the trees. It pisses me off that you can't change the camera angle outside but only inside.

Anyway...
Oh man...just reading these posts make me afraid to buy this game....I really fear of losing the little bit of a life that I have....
The game boy advance lets you catch "summertime" bugs in the winter. I like that. But I'm stuck with this astrology-airhead squirrel named Bliss on my island. She reminds me of an ex-girlfriend and I hate it. The whole E-reader thing is cool, too. Because I'm all about instant gratification rather than writing a letter and waiting for a reply.
Only thing I wish this game had was online play and the ability to play as an animal. I really want to be a monkey!!
Finally broke down and bought this game.(20 bucks at blockbuster!). It's fun. Real fun.

any of you guys still playing it?
I wish I was, too...many...other...games.
I love this game but what the hell is the pitfall, the little ball with a ! mark that you dug up on a treasure hunt.
it's a NES ROM. You can play it on your virtual nintendo...if you manage to acquire it.
I have the NES games, Balloon Fight and Excitebike. And that is after playing it a few times.
can you only get the nintendo in that raffle?

oh man...i'm getting sucked into this one...
Yeah I have Excitebike and Donkey Kong Math which came as your present on the memory card. Does the Pitfall ball only work in a empty NES? From the looks of it thats what I'm assuming.

The pit fall isn't a game. It's precisely what its name says. You bury it with a shovel and when people walk over it they get trapped for a few seconds. Good for pissing off your neighbors or another human player in your town.

HHmmmm...well I'll be damned. That should be fun though.
I just got this game last night. I can't wait to get deeper into it, but I can't believe how open-ended it is. I dug up some fossils and tried to donate them to the museum, but since I haven't gotten any mail from them yet, i'm not allowed.

I also planted a peach tree next to my house. And I was reading that you can plant money trees? That's crazy.
Ok, how do I get the means (bug net?) to catch bugs, and how do I get a fishing pole?

Also, I just now opened up the present Nintendo gave me and it was pretty worthless...Clu Clu Land and DK Jr. Math. What, they couldn't give me Excitebike?
Verbs- you gotta wait a little for the net+fishing pole- tom nook's store changes what it has in stock every day.

Hey- and check out http://www.animal-crossing.com/ - you can find codes for games on the website (got excitbike and balloon fight from them- think you can get soccer too)

I just got back into this game after a few months away from it (the animals were all pissed at me) and damn, there's STILL stuff to do. I've got the biggest house, but there's still so many bugs and fish to find....goddamn game.
Yeah, I bought the bug net this morning. Those emperor butterflies sell for 2k a piece!

I love this game.
The game is worth its pricetag for the old school gaming alone.

I have Legend of Zelda and Punchout unlocked.
