I've never played Silent Hill...

..but a friend is renting SH2 and bringing it over shortly.

Is it good? Anything I should look out for? Anything I need to know from the first one, or is it self-explanatory? Can I eat Cheetos while I'm playing? Baked, for a delicate crunch, or deep-fried, for a crackly crunch?

Well, I think it's overrated and I like the first one better. It's moody as hell, so keep the lights out. Some good puzzels, but most of them are tedious. It's completely isolated from the first one (methinks) so you don't need anymore knowlege. Have fun.

Singer, your love for Jacob's Ladder will make this game even better. It's a classic. Just give it time....

Wait til you get into the game alittle, it will get better. I may be the only one here that thinks SH2 is better than 1. But make sure you play with the lights out, otherwise, the gmae will be wasted.

Like most adventure games, it is a slow starter - a lot of wandering around triggering cut-scenes. But keep open-minded, and drink in the atmosphere. SH2 isn't as scary as the first game, but it's a lot more disturbing in it's themes and imagery.

It's kind of like Blair Witch Project - if you block all the hype and "scariest thing ever" hyperbole out of your mind, and play it on it's own terms, then it's a unique experience. If you put up a shield of expectation, and keep waiting for it to "impress" you, then you'll miss the point.

Turn out the lights, crank up the sound and go with it. It's well worth it.
