Just saw them do a report on a possible link between the sniper shootings and videogames.

They brought in some chunky, wheezing cop who claimed that whoever's doing it may well be some kind of game playing "loser".

They then showed clips from various titles, including sniping sequences from Silent Scope and Counterstrike.

It finished off with a woman trying to establish a link between the killer's message "I am God", and eerily similar messages which gamers exchange in multiplayer sessions. She also made a special point to highlight games which have "God Modes".

Despite the grim subject matter of the snipings, I was nearly in tears of laughter. I feel so guilty.

This is one of the fundamental problems with the mass media. Once one idiot makes a comment about "the link to videogames" all the other networks follow suit with sound bites from some poor slob of a congressman/woman trying to jumpstart their careers or some "group" that petitions congress to ban videogames. Most of these fools have no idea about the games they're trying to bash in the first place....

Videogames don't kill people, people kill people with real live weapons....

Until the sniper leaves a tarot card proclaiming "I am collecting shines", the link to videogames is flimsy at best. This person(s) may indeed play videogames, but these days it's like saying the sniper is probably a tv-watcher or air-breather.

god, this crap just annoys me... so, I guess they had video games in the sixties too, the era of the Texas Tower Sniper? I think this is exactly the kind of "climate of fear" reporting Michael Moore is on about in Bowling for Columbine...

Going off the video games to real world theory I would probably be a ninja who is real good with guns and magic by now, I'm really hoping this pans out for me.

Oh yeah, I would also be a race car driver a mafia hit man, a basketball/hockey/football/baseball player, a superhero and I can fly all manor of jets.

Not to shabby for an insurance salesman by day.

I hope when they get this guy, they'll find him surrounded by bibles. Of course then they'll probably just blame Barry Pepper's performance in Saving Private Ryan.
