4Ghz?
64 Megs of Ram?
Seems pretty brutal in terms of power...pc's have only just reached 3Ghz processing power.
But the ram is a kick in the nuts. If they were to make a system that powerful...why not at least bump it up to 256 Megs of ram, or better 512. That'll give any developer tons of freedom to do whatever they want without having to sacrifice anything due to memory constraints.
Of course this is all just speculation on an article that could be true or false (you never know with the internet).
So, if you were to build your own Playstation/X-Box/Nintendo console what would you make?
Me, I'd do the following:
3 to 5 Ghz Processor.
1 Gig of Ram.
180 Gig Hard Drive.
6.1 Surround Sound Capable audio (ie, the Audigy 2)
128 Meg Video card powered by a Nvidia chipset.
Built in Modem/Ethernet card
Component Output/VGA output for higher res tv's/monitors.
Standard video outputs (rca/s-video)
Folly to even dream of a system made for mass market consumption like the one above right now...not that far off from that Onion article on the Playstation of the future...Falcon Northwest and Alienware make similarly configured systems like the one described for about $2500-3000 dollars.
But down the road whenever sony or microsoft plan on revamping their consoles, the prices on the components will indeed go down. I wonder what kind of system Homer would make.
