Picture doesn't fit screen. Anyone else?

My gamecube has always done this on my new tv, and my PS2 did it on my old TV. It is almost ALWAYS off fucking center. Why the hell is this? Why can my DVD Player/VCR/Camcorder/NES all be perfect and the new consoles can put a damn picture on the screen correctly?

Still my Gamecube shrinks the picture by about a quarter inch on both sides, thus causing alarm for burn-in on my bigscreen

yesterday my wife pops in Kingdom Hearts <for the first time> and its off center by about a quarter of an inch... and yup.. no damn centering tools in the game..

why can I do to correct this? and what the hell causes consoles to do this? Yes I know the GC has a centering tool internal, but the problem is the picture is still too small

Anyone?

Well I have no idea how to help, unfortunately. But yep, I had this exact same problem.

Unless you can stretch or zoom the picture with your television controls, the best you can do is dim the picture to reduce the chance of burn-in or put the games systems on a direct view tv where it's not a concern (if that's an option at all).

It has to do with console games having set resolutions I think. The resolution can only go but so high before the picture starts getting distorted. I have the same problem on my dad's 32 inch Sony tv, but i have no problem on my 19 inch tv in my room. I came to this conclusion after trying to watch Shenmue: The Movie on DVD on my computer, and it looks absolutly horrible because since it has a set resolution that it can't go higher it looks really bad on a computer screen, but fine on a TV.

Its still BS because a TV is a friggin' standard, make it fucking work. everything else I plug in works just fine, but next gen consoles are offcenter. some games worse than others.

It boggles really.

And when I put the game in "stretch" mode it still has about a 1/4" gap.

No shit? I'm shopping for a big screen now and have it narrowed down to that model or the Mitsubishi 42311. Aside from the game console gaffe, how's the tv?

Anyone help me with this problem? I tried changing things in the PS2 config, and it doesn't matter if its 16x9, 4x3, whatever.. the picture is too small and off centered.

my PS2 and Gamecube BOTH do this, while nothing else does.. it's driving me mad.. I tried every hookup and its always the same, doesn't matter what type of input either.

Why can't shit just work.

Supposedly Gamecube has vertical and horizontal options.

How you get to them I have no idea.

42" plasma with gold-plated component cables. Never had any problems.

It's called overscan. Some televisions are set to cut off part of the picture so that the borders of the signal don't show, which I guess could be distracting. It's been driving me mad when I played DVDs until I got one with X-Y scaling.

again, this only happens with video games, nothing else. everything else plugged in thru the inputs fills the screen.

Trying to get my wife to not let the screen burn is a pain, I told her to make sure she switches the screen sizing to keep moving the line as to reduce the chance of burn-in.. but she keeps forgetting.
