What is XBOX Live?

Ok. I love movies, but my 8 year old is the one into gaming. I just got XBOX Live for free. I haven't met anyone who knows anything about it. So I figured I'd try my luck Here. What is it about, is it worth having? Any info is welcomed. Thanks.

It's an adapter & headset that allows you to play select games online against others, providing you have a Cable or DSL connection to the Internet.

If you got one free, then you'll have free access to the Xbox network for at least a year. Nobody knows for sure what charges are involved after that.

Yeah I did look at the website, but it's confusing to me, I rule at Donkey Kong on ColecoVision and that's about it. So do you have to have XBOX too, or is it seperate?

Yes, you need an Xbox, as well as a copy of one of the games that is compatible with the service. This is just an accessory.

Oh, and I do have a cable modem connection to the web. So I guess that's a good thing?
