Panzer Dragoon Orta (Discussion)

I can't wait until this game is released to stores on Weds. I have been waiting for another Panzer Dragoon game since I finished Panzer Dragoon Saga for Saturn. Even though this one looks to similar to Panzer Dragoon and not Panzer Dragoon Saga I think it will be have more of a broad appeal. So far the game is getting great reviews from the major sites, Ign.com gave it a 9.2 and gamespot gave it a 9.0. Gamespot mentioned that the graphics are some of the best done in any game, and one those games that you say to yourself, "Can only be done on X-box". The artistic direction is awesome in the game, with great variety in the environment. You may notice that I haven't mentioned gameplay, but I haven't played it so I won't mentioned it other than that it is getting thumbs up as well. I bought the soundtrack a few days ago (it is available in the US for only $15, and they do sell it a some gamestops, and on gamemusic.com. The soundtrack is great with a very upbeat tempo, and some really catchy tunes laced in the mix. Anyone else excited about this one?

It looks amazing....I loved all 3 for the saturn, so this one is a definite must buy for me.

That demo level that was on the OXM magazine was insanely fun, gameplay's very reminicent of the older ones...which is great. Can't wait for it.

Might give it another try, but the demo bored me to death.

Taken from www.ign.com review......

"Panzer Dragoon Orta is the best looking game on Xbox. That's not up for debate. Watch the game in motion and you'll see that Orta takes Xbox graphics to a whole new level......If I could give this game an 11 in graphics, I would. Actually, forget the number you see below. Consider it an 11. This game is unbelievably gorgeous and the screenshots don't do it justice. If this is the tip of the iceberg for Xbox, I pray I never go blind......Let me wipe the drool from your mouth. Stunning. Gorgeous. The prettiest console game so far."

Now that is saying something.

Also the game comes with the full original game to play with also. Ign gave the graphics a 10 and presentation a 10. All the rest were 9's with replay value getting an 8.

2 days is so long to wait.....

I have so many games to play...damn me.

I'll hopefully rent this one as well as a shit load of other ones.

If I only had the time...

Sega, why must you forsake me? Your games are the only ones I want on this forsaken box, and I don't want to shell out to get one!

I got this game early this morning, and WOW!!!!! This game is the best particle effects I have ever seen. It is like watching one fo those beautiful tech demos. I have been playing it non-stop from this morning probably logged about 11 hours on it, and now I'm on the last level, and the last boss is hard as hell, and he is cheap, I gotta go back and play.

So...is it a 'keeper' or more of a rental only proposition...since you're already on the last boss and the thing dropped yesterday ?

That is a tough choice, I'm on the last level still but I have the game on easy and have been playing it alot since yesterday, I have about 16 hours log into it now, the last boss is one tough son of a bitch. Also there are alot of other extra features like the original Panzer Dragoon with the game. My suggestion is if you have never played the original Panzer Dragoon games, then rent Orta first, and if you are as addicted as I am then buy it. If you are a fan of the series then it is an easy decision to just buy the game.

Ryo....what kind of goodies have you opened up upon completing the game...I'm sure you've made it past that last boss by now...you were on a roll yesterday.

Seriously considering picking this one up with some store credit I have at EB. Let me know....

I'm seeing nothing but great reviews on it and I loved the origninal Panzer on Saturn back in the day.

I played this at Best Buy yesterday. I was never a huge fan of the Saturn games, but this game was a whole lotta fun. Locking onto a buttload of enemies and letting rip a massive blast of firepower was very cool. I'll be picking this one up eventually.

Did they clean up the graphics on the original Panzer Dragoon for this release?

Well as you beat individual levels you unlock new things such as the history of the Panzer world, cinematics, individual level selection. To get the original Panzer game you must beat the game on hard mode. Also you get individual rankings on each level and the higher the ranking the more stuff you can unlock, I always got like C's and D's for rankings so I didn't unlock much, but I saw a lot of empty spaces in the extra features so there is alot to unlock......I wouldn't know.

I doubt it, you have to beat it on hard mode to unlock it.
Ryo...according to Gamefaqs...you should already have the original Panzer unlocked...it says this is the way to get it unlocked :
-----------------------------------------------
In order to unlock the original Panzer Dragoon game, either beat the game on any difficulty or play for a total of five hours.
-----------------------------------------------

I was expecting this to be one of the best releases of the year and it exceeded my expecations. What an amazing game that completely captures the Panzer Dragoon aura of godliness and injects new mechanics to make the gameplay even better than the first 2, wow. Saga 2 is coming next from Smilebit. I love those guys!!

Damn, I better start looking for it, I couldn't find it.

After playing the demo I didn't even feel like I'd played a game! All you do is shoot stuff from a dragon you're not really even controlling. I guess if you like House of the Dead games this would be one for you. I like to play MY games though. Not watch cinemas that are supposed to be you playing a game.
Cabal, you missed the point completely. Orta is more of a game than most it's very challenging, very tough, I suspect some people will be turned off by the difficulty. This is not House of the Dead or anywhere near a lightgun game. Hey, if railshooters aren't your thing that's cool but to dismiss it as unintersting or boring, etc. is a mistake. The demo is not anywhere near a good representation of what the gameplay is like. There's so much to shoot and defend yourself from if it was anything other than a rail shooter it would be impossible.

Are you saying that dragons don't have the intelligence to fly by themselves?
I went ahead and picked up Orta last night....man...it is INCREDIBLE. Easily the best rail shooter ever. Anyone who liked StarFox64 or any other rail style shooter will be in heaven with this game. And it's pretty tough even on Easy. Mastering the dragon's three forms is crucial in the boss battles. Plus there are buckets of goodies to unlock and not just crap....whole separate side missions !! A definite keeper !!

The Pandoras Box is sweet! I've been delving into the encyclopedia boning up on my Panzer knowledge! Of course, the granddaddy of all extras is the original Panzer game. I have gotten to Episode 4 on normal and have only been graded a C on the first three Episodes. It's kicking my ass! Incredible game!
The last boss is kicking my ass from here to, I don't know, somewhere very far from here which is only reachable via an immense ass-kicking.

Anybody have any tips on how to avoid the undodgeable (ass-kicking)hot pink death rays?
I cannot express how annoyed I am with the shitty camera system for Splinter Cell (x-box). I really should've held out for the more intuitive pc version...so after giving up in frustration, I loaded this sucker up.

Absolutely stunning. I've never played any of the panzer games. I was under the impression they were funky assed ww2 games or civil war simulations.

Show's how much I know.

This is really a weird game to get into. It's nothing like the free form fps/rpg's I'm usually into. Being carted along by the dragon as you see prettier and prettier scenery while blasting away at anything that comes your way took some getting used to.

Part of me was slightly bored when I started off but as I replayed this sucker repeatedly it's unique charm grew onto me. It's pretty much worth a rental but I wouldn't go head first into a purchase with this one.
