Bushido Blade

I love this game. Actually, I've played a lot more of Part II, but I love the overall concept. No life bars, no time limits. Pick your fighter, pick your weapon, and duel to the death.

Anyone else think this would be a perfect template for a Star Wars fighting game?

This is a great game. The fact that you can kill your enemy with one hit is priceless.

The best we have right now is backwards-compatibility with the PS2. I'm kinda tired of button-smashing combo chain fights, which is why I enjoy this game so much.

Even though Part II had quite a few improvements, I wish they would've left leg wounds like in Part One. There's nothing like slowly crippling your victim, or conversely, barely being able to stand up, only to fatally strike an untouched enemy. Very cinematic if you ask me.

Loved these games! I echo the sentiment of wanting a next gen sequel!

I liked part one better than two for some reason. Can't remember why anymore though.

I think the true sequel to this game is Sword of teh Samurai/Kengo 2 for PS2. A great Samurai game.

Yep, Sword of the Samurai (aka Kengo 2) is the next evolution of the series from the same team. Same brutal gameplay, but hung around a more open-ended story with more variety (enter tournaments, challenge rival dojos, hire yourself out as a mercenary). Definitely worth tracking down if you liked Bushido Blade.

Has it even been released in the States? All I see is Japan & Europe release news.

It's also a little disappointing to see life bars. Gonna keep crossing my fingers for BB3.

well, the game actually has blood bars. the nice thing about this is that the bars actually start going down on the first slice, and very often the first slash you get in (or get dealt) will kill: you'll just spurt blood, stumble around and eventually drop dead at the feet of your opponent (or vice versa).
it's very cool, and the great thing is, you can receive a killer blow which slowly drains your blood bar, but get lucky and pierce your opponent's heart with your katana (running somebody through equals instant death), thereby winning (your wounds will simply close, apparently, hehehe)

Thanks Sethos! It certainly sounds more interesting than a standard life-bar fighting game.

Too bad it's a PS2 exclusive though.
