True Crime

I did a search & didn't find anything.

Anyways, there's an article on ign about the voice talents for this game, very cool.
<a href="http://cube.ign.com/articles/393/393999p1.html" target="_blank">web page</a>

Christopher Walken joins Gary Oldman, Michael Madsen and Russell Wong in the sound booth to record the voices of key characters in Activision's highly anticipated action game. While Wong voices the title's hero Nick Kang, Walken will play one of his fellow LAPD officers. Activision has given every indication that the game's story elements will make use of Walken's unique talents and we've already heard his Kang-inspired rendition of the "Theme from Shaft." Like the man himself, it's creepy, cool and funny all at the same time.
Other key characters in True Crime will be voiced by veteran television actress CCH Pounder, James Hong (you know him as Lo Pan from "Big Trouble in Little China"), Mako (Schwarzenegger's wizard buddy from the Conan movies), Ron Perlman (the beast from TV's "Beauty and the Beast") and Keone Young, who's already done voicework for Activision's latest Tenchu title and Sony's Mark of Kri in the past year.

Walken plays a fellow officer? What are the Vegas odds on him turning out to be one of the bad guys?
MAKO! He's still alive?
Wow. I never heard anything about this game, but with a cast like that color me interested.

It's actually supposed to be on the cube as well. Finally end this crap about avoiding adult titles.
The screenshots look amazing. Count me in. Especially with CCH "Scheeekkkaeecchchchhchchhchehch" Pounder involved.

I had a thread for this pup awhile back but yea I can't wait for this puppy.

Yet another reason I got an X-Box was to realize the full potential of this game.

Pup and puppy in the same sentence CT? Come on man, that is just lazy. wink

Looks like a promising game, anything to get me to turn on my Cube is a plus.

Been buzzed about this one for a while. Apparently, the LA locations are going to be as painstakingly recreated as London was for the Getaway.

and with no GTA title likely this autumn, this game will keep my addiction to this type of game from faltering...

I love the voice casting though: Gary Oldman and Chris Walken! that is very cool (though I'm not sure it'll be quite as cool as Ray Liotta's Tommy Vercetti)

He's a wizard, mind you.

Eh... he's gonna want more cowbell.

But can he top his seminal performance as Detective Magnotta in Ripper?

"Looks like this case. Has me a little rattled."
I had a thread on this kitten too...or something.

The trailer featured on May's X-Box mag demo disc wasn't bad at all. It had some rough edges, but hey it's a work in progress. Very much looking forward to this when it comes out. The game footage featured out of the cars though reminded me of Shenmue. I hope that's not a bad thing.

Yes.

<a href="http://cube.ign.com/articles/456/456551p1.html" target="_blank">Snoop Dogg is a playable character in True Crime.</a>

I was already going to get this game right away but this might cement it as the game for the holiday season. I can't wait.
Between the pure hiphop/rap soundtrack with NO OTHER GENRE of music and snoop dog being a playable character, this game is sounding MORE FUCKING RETARDED by the minute.

I was looking forward to it as filler between grand theft auto games but now the idea of it is just starting to piss me off.

This game better have some seriously great gameplay to make up for all the lame shit they keep doing to it. I'm just waiting for them to announce that you have to prove you own at least 5 rap albums before you can even purchase this game!
I hope in that game Snoop Dogg is a NPC walking the streets. Because if I'm in a car or something, I plan to engage that scum.
It's a pretty good sign when the opening movie engages you right off the bat and makes you care about the characters.

Walken narrates and talks about how Nick Kang deserves to know what happens to his father, who was apparently killed many years ago. I fucking love stuff like this.

This game kicks ass so much, and i'm just in the shooting range.
Ooooh you lucky Gamestop boy!
Guys, you're gonna love this game. It's fun, first of all. The controls aren't perfect, but manageable.

The city is just fucking vast. Simplest way to put it. And the random street crimes you take on that have nothing to do with the main story are a great way to kill time. You could just do that forever, probably, without touching the main story. And speaking of the main story...it's very well-written and with a lot of voice talent. Michelle Rodriguez, CCH Pounder, Michael Madsen, Christopher Walken (as mentioned before), Ron Perlman, and Gary Oldman.

Also, the soundtrack is awesome. PERFECT for this type of game.

And Nick Kang has charisma coming out of every orifice. This voice actor is fucking great.

Nick is voiced by Russell Wong, from the "Vanishing Son" fame. He was also in "Romeo Must Die" with Jet Li.

Since I have brought and played both GTA games on PS2, I might give this one a try. Seems like fun.

Thanks, Otis.

Another question...do you happen to know who gives the best price for used games? I'm gonna sell a couple to buy this & don't know if I should go to Gamestop or EB Games.
I think they'll usually match the competition. That's what my GameStop does.
EB won't price match, but they always give me good deals. I traded in Mario Golf & Viewtiful Joe for THUG and got $35 for Mario and $30 for Joe. I was happy with that.

Me too. But games like this don't come by the Cube often. I'm trading in my Wind Waker and Hitman 2 to ease the blow.
I bought my system a week and a half ago and I already have:

A Wavebird
TMNT
Viewtiful Joe
Clone Wars
SSX

I am such a stupid bastard. I never should have bought this thing. It's just a fucking money pit.

I loved the game but I'm not going to go back and play it like I do Ocarina of Time and this will fetch me the most money for True Crime.
did they keep 720 resolution for this game, as it was promised in the x-box mag preview, as an optional screen resolution?

mheh, I am such a whore.

For trade-in value? I don't know how they do that. You have to take it for what the value is in the computer.

Usually, i'll hear people say that on one hand, they got more for a certain game at EB than at Gamestop, but then someone else will say vice versa. Eh, whatever.
fucking rap soundtrack is the only thing stopping me from forking over cash on this one.

about the LA environment, how interactive is it? (i.e. can you go into any house you choose, or is it a nice looking but basically lifeless game world like London in the Getaway?)
IGN has a downloadable video review here.

For those who don't have subscriptions, the reviewer guy says don't expect to know what to do if you've played any of the GTA series, as this one is more controlled story-wise. It's a controlled Choose Your Own Adventure. He also pointed out much more cinematic this game is than GTA and how you'll be compelled to earn points to advance further.

He said that the living city is one of the best features. Several hundred square miles of Los Angeles have been meticulously recreated for the game and that at no time will you have to wait for the different areas of the city to load.

He pointed out the Max Payne-style fighting system that allows you to stun opponents and earn combos and also how you can play either good cop/bad cop. He also said that if you go against everybody and the S.W.A.T. gets called out, unlike in the GTA series, you'll be in a "world of hurt."

Finally, he pointed out that the voice acting is one of the highlights... especially Christopher Walken, who is a older police mentor to Nick Kang.
Well... who bought it, and how is it? I just picked up the Xbox versions of GTA yesterday... my wife is pissed at me bigtime because all she thinks it is is a beat up hookers game.

But it is a beat up hookers game!

I picked it up last night and got in a few hours of gameplay. I dig it. It's not totally open like GTA but there is a lot of fun action. Almost everything indoors is destructable. A fight in a chinese restaurant leads to lots of broken tables & chairs.

Maybe my favorite part is that you can frisk any one on the street. I found an assult rifle on a homeless guy doing that. The shooting system is pretty simple. I'm hoping it gets more involved with further missions.

A nice purchase.
fun, pure one hundred percent fun.

Nice way to enjoy the afternoon busting some ass. It's safe to say my Shenmue fears are gone, in addition to the driving game, the pedestrian sections are awesome. Though I need to find myself one of those dojo's to upgrade my ass kicking abilities.

Even more is that if you got yourself the x-box edition, the 720 screen resolution is great. Crisp, clean eye candy. Those ign guys were crying about the camera kicking your ass in certain sections, which is true, but did they attempt using the analog stick to correct it?

As it's been said before, Walken is a treat to listen to. Nick is hilarious...and the amount of swearing surprised the fuck out of me. The game drips of coolness. I've spent about 2 hours playing the sucker this afternoon, and am already on the third episode.

I don't mind the rap music. I thought I would, but it doesn't bother me at all. Even if it did, the custom soundtrack feature would've come in handy.

My favorite part so far? A random crime involving a chase with an award winning hit-n-run actress. God, the resemblance to the real person is uncanny. It made me feel good putting the cuffs on her.

So if you haven't already, go the fuck out and buy this gem now. Or something.
This is the first game I've purchased since "Vice City" over a year ago and I think I made a good choice. The controls are very similar to "Vice" so it was easy to get comfortable. The voices are a lot of fun. Walken is a given but I always thought Russell Wong was pretty humorless in movies, yet his voice over work shows some real personality.

So far the only negatives I see are the soundtrack, but rap isn't really my thing and the fact that since the main character is a cop you can't fully become a 100% Tommy Vercetti badass.
It's weird how I got a kick out of being a shit-head in the gta games and at the same time relishing every moment here busting lowlife ass.

What makes this game fun is the fear factor. You never know when a bust, on the random crimes, is going to turn ugly; whether or not the perps, especially when they're in god awful large groups, is going to pull out an automatic weapon and mow you down.

I get nervous everytime when I'm answering the dispatchers call. Street fights I can handle, dito to hostage situations, but crowds I fear. Mheh.

I love the way the AI behaves. Here I was busting up a street fight. I was cuffing one bum, while the other bee-lined for my fucking police car and stole off with it. Hilarious as shit, but chasing the fucker down kinda pissed me off. Even more embarassing was driving my recovered vehicle, with three tires shot out, to the repair station...took forever to find one.

again, this game is cool. I ordered a second copy, and am having it sent to my brother in canada.
Try taking on heavyily armed bank robbers.

It's the North Hollywood shoot out all over again..
Oh...and I've been regulated to watching friends play since I can't spend the money....boy howdy the guy doesn't know how to play these games. He tries busting someone only to get back in the car. He tries to ram a car and ends up leaping out. Too much stress.
It's the brakes. It got me everytime for the first 10 minutes or so. It's funny actually, cruising along at high speeds to interrupt a fight, then when aiming the car at the criminals, you jump out and let the car lay waste...instead of gracefully stopping.
I enjoy playing this adaptation by Activision on the popular GTA series. But seriously, this game is weak. The gameplay is not as free as it should be and you end up being pretty connected to the story instead of in the case of GTA where you can do what you want when you want. With the GTA series out now on XBOX as well i think everyone will find this game to be a weak representation.
