Coolest Video Game Moments

Whether they're touching, happy, sad, or funny, I want to hear/share some of the best moments witnessed in a video game. BUT BE WARNED: SPOILERS MAY BE AHEAD!!

-When Master reveals his true identity to Snake in Metal Gear Solid.

-When the nurse starts bleeding from the head in Silent Hill. Scared the crap outta me.

-Wile playing Max Payne, I once did a full 360 in Bullet Time, with both berreta's blazing, taking down a whole room full of baddies.

More to come later...
I can think of one.

When Harry Mason has to listen to Nurse Garland's heartbreaking transformation in 'Silent Hill'.
The entire opening sequence of MGS2
When the long red verticial bar hit down in Tetris.

Any moment ever with Yoshi.

Blanka crying his eyes out as we finally meet his mom and find out his name is Jimmy in Street Fighter II

The whole opening sequence to Final Fantasy VIII, "Liberi Fatali" is the coolest song.
The Aeris Death scene in FF7, it still gets me

Spoilers>>>>>>>>> for FFX and Shenmue 2

The Love Scene in FFX, where Tidus and Yuna were in the lake and Yuna started crying because she couldn't go to Zanarkand. And then went in for the kiss, and they madeout, such a beautiful scene.

Also the ending to FFX, when Tidus started disappearing, and Yuna keep saying shaking her head "No, no, no". And then Tidus tells her that he has to go, and he is sorry that he couldn't show her Zanarkand. Tidus then says goodbye, and starts walking towards the light, and then Yuna runs after him, to hug him, but she runs right through him and falls down. Then Tidus starts crying when the green screen is behind him(raise the volume on your TV). But wait Yuna then rises up, with each of them facing back to back Yuna tells Tidus, "I love you" (Finally after 10 games someone says it.) Tidus then turns around, knowing he can't truly hug Yuna he puts his arms around her, and keeps them there. He then walks through he and jumps off the ship.

The stare down between Ryo and Lan Di in Shenmue 2. Also the whole 4th cd, when you finally meet Shenhua(the girl Ryo kept seeing in his dreams).

When Raiden dodges an attack from Solidus, and slices him in the back during the awesome final battle during MGS2. This one move totally changed my mind about Raiden.

Yeah that was so fucking awesome. I really liked that John Woo tribute in the beginning of the fight scene when Solidus got into his stance and then in slow-motion, you saw the birds fly behind him in the background. MGS2 had so many moments.
Fighting back-to-back with Luke Skywalker against Desaan's thugs in a freighter depot in deep space, lightsabers whirring and blasters ricocheting all over the place, while Williams' soundtrack thunders in the background...

That's just one of MANY in Jedi Knight II.
Looking up at the end of the first three days in Zelda: Majora's Mask, and realizing that the world really was coming to an end, and you were too late to stop it.

Shooting down the helicopter in Half-Life.

Wandering the streets of Portland at night while its raining in GTA3, and beating down the poor thug who mugged an old woman. And then beating up the old woman and taking her money anyways.

The mission in Tie Fighter where your wingmates betray you, and the mission where you fly alongside Darth Vader.

And about 5 million more...
- The moment when a Tie Fighter enters a docking bay and flies above you in Dark Forces

- Blowing away your first baddie piece by piece in Soldier of Fortune

- Killing your first baddie with a lightsaber in Jedi Knight

- Dodging road spikes laid down by cops trying to slow you down in Need for Speed 3

- Using the Sythe in Undying

- Parachuting down into a level in MDK

- Shooting through walls in Duke Nukem

Okay so many great ones to list:

_many in MGS2: Emma's death scene, the slo-mo shot, Snake and Otacon's handshake, Vamp's first appearance, the tanker ending scene and many more.

_Leon and Ada kissing in Resident Evil 2

_James Sunderland realizes how his wife really died in Silent Hill 2

_Dante faces Mundus in Devil May Cry (the scene right before the fight)

_the end of the world of balance in FFVI

_Indy and Sophia Hapgood's interactions all throughout Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

_Ico

God there are just so many, I can't remember them all.

-- The inside of the robot's head in the original Wasteland.

-- Randomly bumping into Elminster in Baldur's Gate and Drizzt in Baldur's Gate 2.

-- Approaching the Death Star II in X-Wing: Alliance.

-- Every mother-loving second of Half-Life.

The Psycho Mantis fight in MGS, when Meryl puts the gun to her head. Also, the scene where Snake kills Sniper Wolf.

The cutscene right before you fight Eddie in Silent Hill 2.

In the very first Resident Evil, running around the mansion while that girl(can't remember her name) is playing the piano. Very spooky.
- The end of Karateka when you approach your kidnapped girlfriend, but forget you're still in a combat stance. Insulted, she kills you with one kick to the head and you have to start all over (If this chick ccould kill people with one kick to the head, why didn't SHE bust herself out of the villain's hideout, damnit!?!).

- The first time you do a super combo in any of the Capcom "Marvel vs." games, watching your character pummel your opponent with garish fullscreen attacks while seeing the Hulk hit him 45 times as boulders fall on him .......and then seeing that, after all of that, his Power meter went down maybe 20 percent, tops.

- Realizing after seeing all of the animalities, fatalities, friendships, and animalities in Mortal Kombat 2 in the arcade that there was no point to the game existing beyond that.

- Fighting your way throguh Half-Life, one of the most original FPS games of all time, only to reach a level that requires PLATFORM JUMPING.....in a FIRST-PERSON SHOOTER?!?!

- Finishing th....wait a minute. I'm sorry. I'm listing the UNcoolest video game moments...

...WHoops. wink
- I ran down a flight of stairs in Half-Life in the single-player game only to run smack into two marines. I was out of ammo, but I had Ol' Bluie (my crowbar) and managed to dodge and hit until both were dead. Getting through that game was a crowning achievement.

- System Shock II when you get further down into the ship and have to run through a room filled with millions of alien/human hybrids. You have to kill some to get through, but you can't stop and fight or you'll be overwhelmed.

- Hiding myself under a box in MGS, only to be discovered by a curious guard, only to leap up and kick his ass! I love that box! Also the Psycho Mantis psychic power demonstration

- Fallout II when you meet the Knights who say Ni, and when you run into the casting room (it's a building filled with people who auditioned for Fallout II). Also, getting the car back after it gets ripped off in Reno without resorting to violence.

- Beating Ultima Underworld I. That whole game was just so good...Ultima IV / V where you can use the Skull of Mondain to wipe out entire towns

- being chosen to be part of the Emperor's Hand during TIE Fighter

- playing Jedi Knight multi-player in a dark room with a bunch of friends and Force Blinding one of them. Because the room was dark and the screens were so close, the effect was to have a blind character AND a blind player!

- getting a dwarven pathfinder for the first time in Myth: The Fallen Lords...accurate molitov cocktail throwing = goodness

- smashing the backboard for the first time in One-On-One basketball for the Commodore 64

- making the opponents goalie crumble into dust through repeated slashing with your stick in Activision's Ice Hockey for the Atari 2600

- beating the shit out of cocky kids on Mortal Kombat II

There are millions more moments for me...<sigh> a life wasted playing vids!

Gabriel Logan running from the subway to the park through the rain in Washington, D.C., andnearly getting hit by a cop car

Dunking in Double Dribble, that never got old.
those FFX scenes did indeed rock

Ico - when you run over the old bridge, and it collapses under Yorda, and you just manage to pull her up. I was sold right there and then (actually, I was sold before that, when Ico first grabs her hand and pulls her along. fantastic animation there).

Nearly all the endings of Westwood's criminally underrated Blade Runner game. especially the negative ones.

Silent Hill 2 - the water ending.

Silent Hill - Nurse Lisa's bloody meltdown

the first confrontation between Kain and Raziel in Soul Reaver (and just about any Kain moment after that in SR and SR2)

Devil May Cry - When Dante gets Alastor. I had some flashbacks to Moorcock's Stormbringer there...

beating Zelda: a Link to the Past on SNES

the first level of Dark Forces, when you get to steal the Death Star plans.

the voodoo dreams in Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers

all of Monkey Island 1 and 2

finally understanding Sanitarium (also a great game nobody played, it seems)

all of Tie Fighter

confronting Darth Vader in Super Empire Strikes Back for SNES
post #22 of 85
Beating Sonic CD... man that took a long ass time.

All of Dues Ex.

All of Soul Reaver 2.

GTA 3... nuff said.

Making tunnels through Red Faction.

Getting to ride Epona for the first time in Zelda: The Orcara (SP?) of Time.

Seeing Mundus's lair in Devil May Cry... the white palace idea was perfect.

Oh, Conker's Bad Fur day needs mention:

Getting drunk and pissing on fire creatures.

When the game "freezes" and Conker talks to the programmers.

The Great Mighty Poo.

The Bee-on-Flower sex.

Biting chunks out of the giant caveman's ass: "Misa boner isa bigga!"

Whenever Conker gets some cash: "Jetpacks and butlers... here I come."

The D-Day scene.

The Alien scene when Mother says, "Just throw it out the door for shits sake!"

Mr. Big Cog.
I don't know if it was posted, but:

In Grand Theft Auto 3 when you rescue Maria, and she just keeps fucking talking. The credits begin to roll and then you hear a gunshot. The game was worth three times as much for that moment alone!
After surviving the somewhat hard but not impossible mission in MDK2 where you're dodging asteroids and stuff...the cut scene where the Dog barges into the space station via the rocket is one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen in a game. All those alien things running around making fart noises nearly drove me to tears.

Dito on downing the helicopter in Half-Life. That damn thing made your life miserable for a while and it felt so good bringing it down.

Sitting down and playing Daytona USA with 8 of your friends for the first time.

Surviving Omaha Beach in Medal of Honor. That damn level was hard...Just one of the many cool moments in that game. Another was sniping from the tower to save the bridge and calling in air support on incoming tanks.

The end of Fear Effect where Hana and Glas have their standoff and you actually get to pick which character you want to live and play as.

Blowing up the helicopter in Max Payne.
Creating my first Death Park in Roller Coaster Tycoon, opening it up, and watching the carnage. I had racing coasters that collided with each other, free falls that launched higher than the actual tower they were supported on, launch coasters that abruptly ended and deposited their trains into lakes, it was beautiful.

Same thing happened when I went Jurassic Park while playing Zoo Tycoon -- paused the game, took down all the exhibit fences, unpaused, and watch everyone in the zoo run in stark terror.

Sure neither one was quite how the designers intended the games to be played, but they were still great moments.
Anything in Max Payne....

Becoming a Jedi again in Jedi Knight II....

Going to New Reno in Fallout 2....

The scripted events in Half-Life.....

There's many more, just can't think right now.
The first time I threw hands with Mr. X in Kung fu on nintendo. What a rush just to get to him and defeating the martial arts master was a great thrill indeed.
The Sims: Making the bundy family.

X-com: Totaly destroying the town in an invasion. Killing the civilians faster than the aliens. wink Brings a tear to the eye.

RTCW: Killing five soldiers with a pistol and a knife in Multiplayer. (Off course I was a medic)
The first two weeks of playing Black & White:
-Watching my creature do a dance for villagers and then wade into the crowd and start chowing down on them
-Hearing a scream and seeing a villager fly across the screen. Center on my creature - he's punting villagers like crazy!
-Watching my creature shit on people and KILL them!
-Watching my creature heal people and then set them on fire ad nauseum.
-In the first level, finding the woman's sick brother then throwing him against the cliff to kill him. Took his body back and dropped it in front of her to see her cry. Then I smashed her house with a rock. And then I killed her by throwing her against the rubble.
-Throwing villagers out to sea and then having my creature imitate me.
The game got old fast, but man those first few days were GREAT.
I'd totally forgotten about the awesome idea of having to reset your Genesis at the end of Mojo World in the X-Men game. I still don't think any other game went for that trick.

Hell, all of that game was great. And the sequel wasn't bad either.
Hmm... for me, it was the first time I took out a room full of thugs with the trusty assult rifle in bullet time mode in Max Payne.

None of you will know this, or get this... but it is unrivaled.

In Shining Force when you use the yogurt ring.

Sethos, my brother!

I've never been more emotionally wrapped up in a game like I was in "Sanitarium".

That game, to quote Aeschylus, was a colossal mind-fuck.

More love for Sanitarium.

Peace.

I'm just a sucker for graphic adventures.
I briefly scratch my head at the fact that the recreation of The Battle of Hoth in Rogue Squadron (N64) wasn't mentioned by anyone after 30 or so posts. I'm sure everyone who played that level got a thrill from taking out the feet from under those Imperial Walkers with the harpoon/rope gun.

That was another reason to plunk down some green for Nintendo's black machine....
Nah, I didn't splurge on an N64, I just got the PC version for my computer -- and while technically it wasn't the Battle of Hoth, it was the same concept, and it did kick ass.

Also, the first time in Rogue Squadron you got to fly an A-Wing -- oh boy those things are sweet. Paper-thin, but man can they move!
The dancing scene between you and Rina in the Final Fantasy game. That's amazing.
Man.

I've been playing it all day today as I have for the past couple of days.

The genius that is HALO.

Just a few moments that rival ANY listed here:

- When you view the video log of that poor private with the Space Marines and learn of a threat worse than you could imagine.

- Any time you join your fellow Marines for an open firefight.

- The first time you use the sniper rifle to silence an enemy soldier who's about to alert his comrades.

- The first time you come barreling into combat with a rider and a gunner in your Warthog.

- The first time you run completely out of ammo only to turn around and see about 30 foes bearing down on you.
Every second of Tie Fighter.

Ultima Underworld- going down into some dark tunnel and not knowing what the hell could be ahead of you. Damn good game, to bad their isnt a patch that allows you to run it on newer computers.

FF7 - The scene where Sephiroth spears Cloud... and then Cloud grabs the sword in both hands, lifts Sephy and chucks him into the pit of Mako doooooooom!!!!

Resident Evil 2: After a friend and I put in a bunch of GameShark cheats including having the G-virus in hand, the plastic explosive, and all keys, we skipped ahead to the bombed wall where the cheif is hiding out... much scary shnit occured.
The little girl, Sherry? INVISIBLE!!!
The cheif didn't get killed in the right spot... he was gored by William's second advancement in form after following Claire down the ladder...
Made it back up to grab Sherry again and it froze at the elevator: dialogue with Sherry invisible and much growling in the background...

...I didn't sleep very well that night.
I like shock value, so...

Redrum: The Shining II fanpatch for Duke Nukem (PC). The first time you're creeping slowly through that hotel and get pounced by an axe-wielding Jack Nicholson.

Seeing Battle Chess for the very first time.

Ultima VI: The False Prophet. Flipping levers forever at the Shrine of Control and finally entering, only to be greeted by... Mondain!

Ultima V: Entering a city beset by Shadowlords and being feared/lied to/attacked by everyone in sight. Even worse - being outside a city after nightfall.

Ultima IV: Having a C-64 which will only save game on the surface of Britannia, hack'n'slashing your way through 8 increasingly obnoxious levels of The Abyss, finally entering the chamber of the Codex and being completely thrown by the last TWO questions... to the surface!

The Bards Tale: Finally getting your 6-man party up to the second level of Harkyn's Castle and being jumped by 4 Rows of 400 Berserkers!

The Wrath of Denethenor: Barroom brawls!
The Wrath of Denethenor: Making a direct disk copy, playing the copy and getting only a scrolling treatise on the evils of software piracy.

M.U.L.E: The title screen.

Gauntlet: Pumping almost 2000 credits into the arcade version and discovering that the damn game still isn't over and your ride is waiting.
WWII Online: Taking out an Allied tank point blank with your trusty rifle, one shot through the gunner's peephole.
I would like to add since this thread is over a year and a half old.

Knights of the Old Republic - "The Jedi Trials" scene. Also the "BIG" plot twist in the game.

Halo - Using teleportation glitches in the game to your advantage in mulitplayer oddball and capture the flag, and having the other team say "What the fuck?!" ( I know, at school we have played the game so much that we have found ways to get on top of every single map through glitches in the teleporters)

The Getaway - basically the whole movie atomsphere had some of the best moments in gaming.

Lunar: Silver Star Story & Lunar 2: Eternal Blue - basically just getting a hold of both these games at gamestop for rock bottom prices in the last two months with everything included. But also the moments in the game, just the whole setting out on a grand adventure just brought back so many memories of wanting to go on adventures from my childhood. Also the ending so Silver Star Story is in my top 5 endings of all time, just so damn touching , made me cry.
Nearly all of Grim Fandango, one of the best game experiences EVER.

Finally beating Planescape:Torment, after restarting, on different computers, 5 times.

Killing everyone in almost every town in Fallout. And the intro to Fallout.

Secret of Mana. Two players. Joy.

Metal Warriors multiplay for hours on end. And then, last year, loading it up on the DC and playing with the same friend who enjoyed it with me those many years ago.

Grabbing a friend's sholder as the arms burst through the boarded up windows in RE 2 and watching him almost piss his pants.

Playing and beating Chrono Trigger, then lending it to friend's who HATED RPGs, only to have them become as crack whores to it's SNESy goodness.

Spending the summer renting and re-renting the same copy of Super Mario RPG with a friend and going over to his house ever evening until we beat it.

Screaming guys in Serious Sam

"May the Rats Eat Your Eyes!" (Eternal Darkness)

First race in Super Mario Kart

The first entry into Hyrule Field in OOT

Getting the damn horse in OOT

Dodging the guards in the castle courtyard in OOT

Almost all of OOT

Finding out about Infested Kerrigan in Starcraft

Riding the PCJ 600 the first time in Vice City

The first mission in Perfect Dark
- GTA3 in the car bomb mission, leaving the radio station on classical when that fat fuck gets back in the car. That moment alone made the game worth $50.

- Tecmo Super Bowl; Broncos vs. Chiefs. That was some classic heavy shit between me and my brother-in-law.

- Nailing someone with a bananna or greenshell in Mario Kart. Nothing ever felt more rewarding.

- Any game that requires TRUE Co-Op play. This feature alone puts Halo into a FPS class all by itself.

- NFL2k1 on the DC coupled with PA PowerRankings.

Alot of the ones already mentioned are spot on. And none more so then that beginning of MGS2, that was some truly crazy shit and instantly justified the purchase of a PS2.
