With Resident Evil 1 just being re-released, I was wondering what you guys think is the best Resident Evil. As I said in other posts, I like the Silent Hill games better, but my favorite RE game would have to be either Nemesis or Code Vironica. (I don't have a Gamecube so I have yet to play the "new" RE1) I like RE2, but after playing it more than once I get tired of going around that police station. RE1 is good too, but to me it has not aged very well. So let's hear it, favorite RE game, and lets hear your favorite parts in them.

IMHO, Nemesis was the best in the series.
I haven't played the RE remake yet, but nothing in any of the other RE games has come close to the fear of being stalked by Nemesis.
Sorry.
But I like the Silent Hill games better too.

Nemesis didn't suck but it had that more of the same feeling to it.
While Resident Evil was more scarier, I like Resident Evil 2 better. The game just had the right hook, and the Zapping System added loads of replay value.

Resident Evil is hands down the best in the series thus far. The first game played on suspense, fear of what lurks in that shadow up ahead, AND startling stuff. The best parts are of course the dogs in the hallway, the closet zombie, and the ceiling hunters in the power room right before meeting Tyrant. But, the morgue is freaky too. Is that sheet going to fall back and reveal my worst nightmare? ...and even though it doesn't happen, it's damned scary.
The second and third games do things with busted windows and noises... but they rarely make you worried about the shadows in front of you, nor your own, nor do they make you tense up in expectation of some unknown evil. By the licker in Resident Evil 2 you've met all the killers you have to destroy. Every room has a monster, so you don't have to tiptoe around shadows and hope against hope that corner isn't concealing a neck biter. True, the Nemisis is frightening and difficult, but I've had that heart pounding in nearly every boss fight in video game history. Give me suspense.
And, the new RE for the gamecube? Wear diapers. Cuz, damn! I am truly terrified. The graphics are so realistic it hurts. And they used so many suspenseful, fear inducing methods! I won't give any away. You go scare yourselves silly and see what I'm talking about. You just watch your ass. Some events occur at random.

I think that Nemesis was by far the scariest and most suspenseful (being chased is a great fear of mine); but the gameplay was kinda weak. I had a hard time finishing it due to lack of interest.
RE2, I think, had the best gameplay in the series. It was huge, had great replayability, and had a good story.
I tried to get through RE:CV, but it got really boring, just couldn't hold my interest and wasn't scary at all.
Haven't gotten RE for the GC yet thanks to my heartless professors and their impossible finals, but I look forward to Friday when I pick it up...

The original Resident Evil was by far the scariest of all of them...at least for me...i had no idea what i was getting into. The second was incredible, but nemesis had a little too much action and not enough story or scares. Code Veronica was reason enough to buy a dreamcast for(until it came out for PS2 also)....but now...
having played through the gamecube RE1, I have to say this is definitely the best of the bunch. The graphics are absolutely amazing, the sound made me piss my pants numerous times, and the gameplay is still as great as ever (yes i'm one of the few fans of the RE controls....). Pick it up immediately...with a gamecube if ya have to....don't forget Resident Evil 0 and 4 are also coming out exclusivly for our little GC wink

ARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!
I just violated so many rules of playing Resident Evil Gamecube:
-Never play when alone
-Never play during rain/thunder(that killed me)
-Never play at night
And especially:
Never play when coming off a trip!!!!
Fuck this game scared me silly...this is by far the best RE game of them all

My favorite RE was the original for PS1 because the mansion is what makes this series scary, the other ones weren't nearly as scary. But now having played through the RE1 for Gamecube, it is the best in the series. The graphics the best I have ever seen in a game. The real-time graphics are better than most games FMV's. The snake, spiders, and holy shit the sharks look real down to the tiny hairs on the spider's legs. Also the lighting in the game, is breath-taking. This may be the first game where the outdoor enviroments look better than the indoor ones.

I have to agree now that I'm a ways into the game, the newest RE is far and away the best.

I got a Cube finally.
RE on the Cube is awesome. Scariest thing I think I have ever experienced and I beat the PS one about 4 times.
