After ages of rumors and suppositions, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is official. The first GTA game to be published under the franchise's new exclusivity agreement with SCEA, Vice City brings the immersion and interactivity of Grand Theft Auto to a new time and place. It's the '80s, the setting is Vice City, "the vibe is glamour, power, and corruption" (Rockstar's words, not ours), and that's about it as far as details go, although more news will be released in July. There is a precise release date, however: October 22.

Oh, a little more GTA news... news that'll please all PS2 owners and piss off anyone else:

Grand Theft Auto 3 and all future titles in the GTA franchise will be exclusive to PlayStation 2 until October 2004, SCEA announced today at its E3 press conference. The hugely popular "thug simulator," developed by DMA Design for Rockstar Games, was the best-selling game title across all platforms last year, and earned IGN's PS2 Game of the Year award amid dozens of other accolades. This announcement means it's curtains for the planned Xbox version of GTA3, which was to be released later this year.

Seeing as how the PS2 will probably be even cheaper than $199 by the time this actually comes out, I can't see too many people throwing a fit.

I'll re-purchase a PS2 the day this game is released.

Also, Jedi Outcast is hitting PS2/Gamecube.

need metroid movies! (:

nevermind just found some on the cube europe

I think Jedi Outcast is only hitting Xbox/Gamecube, not PS2. Clone Wars and Bounty Hunter are getting PS2/GC releases though.

And one of the main reason I'm watching E3 now - Sony's The Getaway. I just watched the trailer and it looks damn sweet. Call it Grand Theft Auto with more serious tones and a wider scope. Plus a bunch of Brits.

Hee, that and more of Sony's titles are pretty much impressing me.

I really liked Xbox's press conference, showcasing some of the cool stuff like new games and Xbox Live. And Nintendo's is, as usual, great.

PS2 - The Getaway, Primal, Ratchet & Clank, Devil May Cry 2, Resident Evil Online, Timesplitters 2 (w/online play), Tomb Raider: AoD, next GTA title (albeit they're not showing it), Midnight Club 2, Kingdom Hearts, Red Faction 2, rumored Sony FPS

Xbox - Duality, Strident, Kakuto Chojin, Project Ego, Splinter Cell, Panzer Dragoon, and if they show it, Halo 2

Gamecube - Metroid Prime, 1080:White Storm, Mario Sunshine, Resident Evil 0, Eternal Darkness

I'm going to be all over 1080 White Storm.
