ESPN Football (Sega 2K4)

I'm anxiously awaiting gettin this one. Is anybody else getting it out there? Who's up for some Live? This is the year of the Bear baby!

I played the demo for X-box last night. Pretty cool, and the 1st person mode looks AWESOME (though that was absent from the demo ).

I am currently debating between this and NFL Fever, though I suspect I might wind up with both.

Madden can go screw this year. They continue to upgrade the game somewhat each year, but they are now falling WAY behind on the graphics side of things. Plus, I already have NCAA 2004 and that's better anyway. At least Madden has Mike Vick on its cover. Almost worth it for that alone.

Madden IS falling WAY behind on the graphics side. I can't see myself paying $50 for just updated rosters. I want to be able to tell the difference from last year's and this year's version just by looking at it. May sound a bit shallow but I think all three games play pretty much the same, so the only difference for me is the graphics. Also this year ESPN brought in First-Person mode, which is very innovative and Fever bought in different player models and XSN Sport Network. I made my choice based on the XSN Sports Network. I seriously do want to try out FP mode in ESPN though, can't wait until that comes out.

i bought the xbox magazine with the demo disc. Didn't work. Brought it back, got a new magazine. Didn't work.
Weird. Mine worked just fine. Also the first X-Box Magazine (and disc) I've ever picked up.
anyone seeing these commercials w/ Tracy Morgan?
Dying to get this game. I have it pre-ordered at the corner Gamestop, and the guy all but assured me that street date will be broken!

For me, it was an easy pick. Fever looks okay, but not as great, and Madden has no Live support. Case closed. I also can't wait to try 1st person mode.

I'm definitely up for some Live matches, but my full-time job and school is seriously cutting into my play time.
I'm really considering getting this game. Gamespot and IGN both say it is better than Madden this year, even though Madden fans don't want to believe it. I might pick this game up along with Family Guy Season 3 & 4 this Tuesday.
I've only seen Madden played by other people, and I haven't played Fever, but I checked this out the other day and I can't for the life of me imagine the other 2 being better than this. This IS football. It's as real as it gets. And Chris Berman's little interjections before the game/half-time/post-game are amazing.

And i'm always one to complain that the players look nothing like their real-life counterparts in these games, but this is the exception to that rule. I'm convinced that's Donovan McNabb or Ricky Williams. We're talking perfect replication.

It's so good, it'll be the first sports game i've bought in......fuck, maybe ever. My Dad used to buy them a lot, but never me.

It's that damn good....and i'm not even talking about the Live play. There's slowdown (for me at least) when picking a play or waiting for the other person to pick theirs, but you don't really notice it and other than that it's lag-free.

Wow! I just picked this up and have only played one game but as someone who has played football games on consoles for many moons I can easily say this is heaven. I thought NFL2K3 was the best football game ever created but this is even better.

The expanded use of the ESPN licence is amazing. The graphics are top-notch and the dumbed down play menus are much simpler to navigate. It's a beautiful thing!

I'm just sick of Maddenisms and the cocaine frenzied play of EA's franchise.

It definitely has the best presentation, that's for sure. I played it the other day and there are cuts to the sidelines (w/ coaches, players saying hi to mom) and cuts to fans in the stadium. Also Berman's halftime reports are great. He actually talks about what happened in the first half and shows stills. Berman also picks his player of the half.

This isn't you classic BS videogame halftime report. "I talked to the coach and he said he hopes his team does better in the second half. Back to you!" Blegh.

Oh yeah and Paper football! Why didn't they think of this sooner?

PAPER FOOTBALL????

That's it... I'm buying this bastard on the way home.
There's air hockey too.
I've actually seen a lot of people trade in thier Madden '04s and picking this one up. I've only played a few games, but I'm loving it so far.
I traded in Fever for this game, and ESPN is amazing. Serious grudge matches have been happing here at school, mostly against me because I am the king of the juke.

So what do you all think?

My opinion is it's the closest thing to actually being on the damn field in a uniform on Sunday. Holy crap it's great.

Special Teams are awesome. They have tweaked it so well that when you make a couple great jukes and hit a seam with some blockers and end up going all the way for the TD it feels like a great accompishment.

I can't say enough about the use of ESPN. The half-time show is amazing and covers all the great plays and explains exactely where the momentum lies at the start of the 3rd. Berman blows Madden right out of the water in terms of sportcasting these days. He was great in the past but it's time for him to park that cruiser and sit at home.

The trash talk is pretty cool as well. I have the Bears in franchise mode and when I played the 49ers one of the Bears told Garcia he wasn't Joe or Steve and then one of the 9ers said to Stewart, "Why don't you go back to being a wide reciever Slash." Classic.

They still call Soldier Field, Chicago Field, and that's the only thing that pisses me off. Come on you damn Canadians get it right one of these years!

The moves and every factor of the game of football have been tweaked to digital perfection.

Also I smoked the f'kn Packers on Monday Night.

Yes I have Live but I haven't been on in a long while. I'm up for it but not tonight, kinda busy. Tommorrow is good though. What time zone are you in?

Eagles game is on from 1-4EST, so I guess sometime after that. Is 5PM EST good for you? My Gamertag is Nobuo Uematsu. I'll host, I'm on a T3 connection.

Shit Ryo can't make it tonight too many things I need to wrap up before the weekend does. Of course, The Bears play tomorrow night so that's no good but how about any other day this week?

That's fine, anytime this week, I'm free.......College life is the best wink

What is your gamertag, so I can add you to my friend's list?

My tag is Floydian Trip. I bet college life is grand. Soak it up because the economy f'in sucks! I'll let you know what day is best for me once I figure out my schedule for the rest of the week. Getting old and having to be responsible sucks too!
Ryo just beat me 49-28. Of course, we both turned the ball over a lot and he capitalized because he jukes with the cheesiness... wink

Fun game, though, i'd be happy to play any of you guys....i'm an easy win for you.

Well the Bears F'kin suck too!

What're your tags so I can add em in when I get on. I'm thinking Wednesday night is gonna be good but if not Thursday for sure. I'll know better tomorrow how everything is gonna shake out.

I should have just played tonight God knows it would have been more interesting than watching the Packers kick the Bears around for the last 3 hours.

Too bad there aren't more people around here with this so's we could get a league going or something.

My tag is MaverickX12, his is Nobuo Uematsu.

If I'm not already on your Friends list, be sure to add Gioman. I just finished a monster Philosophy paper last night, and even though I'll probably be tired as hell, I might be available for a game or two after 11pm EST.

Hey Verbal, that was a cool group we had for RTCW. Even though that guy messed up the accent a few times, that's the best Arnold impersonation I've heard, especially since he wasn't just reciting classic Arnie dialogue.

Alright, tomorrow night Ryo. You game? I'm thinking about 7 or 8 central time? What are you 2 hours behind or ahead? Damn timezones. Whichever works best for you.
8 central time is 9EST so yeah, im game. I sent you a friend invite as well. I also sent one to Gioman.

Late last night, Ryo got a thrashing. 42-24 was the final score, but the score makes it look closer than it was. wink

If it makes you feel any better, you'd probably beat me in Halo. To make myself feel better, Halo isn't on Live.

Advantage - Gio

Hehe, well he can take his frustration out on me now. I'm hooking up now so It'll be a couple minutes. If there are any updates I'll have to go through that too. Send me an invite.

I sent you a buddy invite a few days ago, but you have to accept for you to show in my buddy list for me to give you invite to the game.

Good game Ryo. Redemption is yours with a stern thrashing of me and my sorry ass Bears.

So, do I just really suck or is it nearly impossible to win a game at the medium difficulty level (i.e. where the Human and CPU levels for blocking etc. or equal)?

It shouldn't be that hard, but you should try not using Arizona.

This game is so much better than Madden that it makes my head spin. Best trade-in EVAR.
